A8 News wallowa.com October 17, 2018 Wallowa County Chieftain Cooney named Chieftain GM Jennifer Cooney has been named general man- ager of The Wallowa County Chieftain. East Oregonian Media Group Publisher Chris Rush made the announcement ear- lier this month. In addition to her current advertising sales and market- ing duties, Cooney will man- age office staff and opera- tions at the award-winning weekly newspaper based in Enterprise. “Jennifer’s enthusi- asm and passion for Wal- lowa County, combined with Jennifer Cooney her tremendous people skills made her the perfect choice to be the face of the Chief- tain in the community,” said Rush. “She is already a trusted member of the staff, within the community and our company.” Cooney moved to Wal- lowa County nearly four years ago from Denver and married her husband Chad Cooney this past June. While living in Denver, Cooney wore many hats including selling real estate for 15 plus years. While becoming an inte- gral part of her real estate team in sales, recruiting, train- ing, facilitating and instruct- ing, she maintained high hon- ors within her company. “I am excited to accept this new role and eager to take on new responsibilities with this company, this community and this newspaper,” she said. EO Media Group is a pri- vate, family-owned com- pany with deep roots in the Pacific Northwest. The com- pany operates 11 print publi- cations in Oregon and south- west Washington including the Chieftain and the East Oregonian in Pendleton. IN BRIEF Young people’s concert planned Inland Northwest Musi- cians Young People’s Con- cert will be held at Wal- lowa Schools Thursday, Nov. 15, at a time to be determined. An invitation has gone out to past Wallowa Valley Orchestra members to join in preparation and presen- tation of the concert. A combined rehearsal is Tuesday evening, Nov. 13. There is the possi- bility of some additional rehearsals, which would be arranged with the musicians. New members, espe- cially those playing orchestral strings –– vio- lin, viola, cello and string bass –– and double reed instruments such as oboe and bassoon, are needed. Wallowa County Humane Society will offer an art work- shop, “Drawing and Cartoon- ing the Animals in Your Life,” 7 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 23, at the Humane Society, 103 N. River Street, Enterprise. The workshop is free and open to all ages. Art materi- als will be supplied. Donations accepted. Joseph artist Kathy Bow- man will talk about her art and teach workshop partici- pants how to use simple lines to make portraits of cats, dogs and other animals. Several ani- mal “models” will be on hand for the workshop. Bowman is experienced in using the clean lines of Jap- anese art to capture expres- sion-rich portraits of cats, horses, birds and other crea- tures. Her work exudes a whimsical, wry sense of humor as well as empathy with the creature she depicts. Her art is exhibited at the Josephy Cen- ter, Arts Center East and the Audubon Society in Portland. “Capturing the spirit of an animal in a few simple lines can be a very rewarding form of art,” Bowman said. “It’s about observing, and sort of understanding the energy and temperament of your subject.” The Wallowa County Humane Society is planning an exhibit in the spring, which will include art from this workshop.
