(Bill) Bailey Aug. 10, 1916 –– Sept. 2, 2017 William Bailey died peacefully Sept. 2, 2017, at Angeline Senior Living in La Grade, surrounded by his family. He had recently celebrated his 101st birthday Aug. 10 eating choco- late cake and enjoying his family. Bill was born Aug. 10, 1916, in John Day, Ore., to Harry and Mayme (Yokom) Bailey. He grew up on a ranch near Mt. Vernon, Ore. He had a sister, Lola, of John Day, with whom he had a close relationship. He married Cecil Mae (Cec) McKern in Lewiston, Idaho, in 1939. They moved to Golden, Idaho where he worked in a railroad shop. When World War II began, he thought he would be called up, so he wanted to move Cec closer to home. They moved to Hines, Ore., where he worked in a sawmill. Next they moved to Seneca, Ore., and he and brother-in- law Ernie Coots hauled logs for Hines Lumber Co. Later, Ernie started a logging company, and Bill went to work for him hauling logs around Roseburg and Lakeview. Around 1947, Bill, Cec, Ernie, Dorothy and Lana Coots moved to Joseph where Bill continued to log for Ernie. Around 1953 Ernie bought a ranch at Imnaha. When he passed away in 1965, Bill ran the ranch for Dorothy until it was sold in 1996. Bill and Cec lost two sons at birth, but their niece, Lana, was like their own child.
