Photos and story by Kathleen Ellyn Wallowa County Chieftain T here were two three-pound lunkers hiding out in Marr Pond this year waiting to be caught on Free Fishing Day Saturday, but they eluded the young anglers, although some broken fishing lines may have signaled a hit, if not a catch. Nevertheless, a 19¾-inch fish was caught by Malcolm Albee, in the age 8-10 categroy, and won him not only a big fish dinner but the Sports Corral $50 award. Other winners with big fish by age were Isaiah Brooks, Ellie Bates and Jada Lestinkof, seven and under; Malcolm Albee, Samantha Sanchez and Brady Thill, eight to 10; Talia Knox, Maclain Melville and Ellie Stockham, 11 and older. The casting contest winners: Maddox Walker, Isaiah Brooks and Chase Caldwell, seven and under; Xavier Giron, Gunnar Sinclair and Cougar Stock- holm eight to 10; and Drew Beachy Andrew Marchlewski and Maclain Melville, 11 and older. Fishing was fast all day with many youngsters limiting out on pan-size trout and a Brookie surprising everyone by being in the mix of fish in the pond. Plenty of adults helped the kids out with baiting and landing their fish and a few adults came back after the event to enjoy the free fishing as well. They also took home a fish dinner. Anglers need licenses to fish Marr Pond going forward. Samantha Sanchez, 10, of Enterprise won’t touch her nearly 16- inch fish, but Chad Aschenbrenner got her to kiss it at the Marr Pond Kid’s Free Fishing Day Saturday. Samantha’s fish took second in the 8-10 year category. Wallowa County HEALTH LINE Keycode Entry Weight Room • Cardio Women’s Circuit • Tanning 202 W. Main, Enterprise 541-426-0313 519 W.
