(Butner) Rhodes died May 10, 2017 at Provi- dence St. Mary’s Hospital in Walla Walla, Wash., with her family beside her. She was born April 11, 1954, to Charles Ray Butner and Lin- da (Butner) Crane in Enter- prise, Ore. Also in her life was her step-father Vergil V. Crane. Denise married Clifford Rhodes Jan. 10, 1975, and they made their home in Lostine, Ore. Denise enjoyed the outdoors with many gatherings including fi shing, camping and hunting adventures. She enjoyed garden- ing and her fl owers. She is survived by her husband, Clifford, of 42 years; her mother, Linda Lou Crane of Union; daughter Stephanie Davis of Wallowa, Ore.; daughter Bobbie Lou Rogers (Jerod) of Los- tine; four grandchildren: Dustin, Kevin, Ethan and Angelene; a brother, Robert Butner (Samantha) of Union and many nieces, nephews and friends. She was preceded in death by her father, Charles, and step- dad Vergil as well as a brother, Kevin Butner. A celebration of her life will be held at a later time. In lieu of fl owers, donations in her memory may be made to Wallowa County Humane Society. Bethel Irene Stubblefi eld Aug. 17, 1927 –– May 12, 2017 Bethel Irene Stubblefi eld died May 12, 2017, at Wallowa Memori- al Hospital. She was born Aug. 17, 1927, at Bridge Island, Idaho, to Wayman and Laura (Conley) Lar- kin and lived in Bridge Island prior to moving to Minam and eventually Wallowa, Ore. She attended elemen- tary school in Minam and Wallowa. She married Robert Frank Wom- ack in 1942 and Otis Omar Stubble- fi eld in 2004. She worked for Shorty McKenzie’s Wallowa Cash Market, as well as a dentist in Wallowa and the Oregon Department of Forestry. She was a county election board volunteer and served meals at the senior center for more than 34 years. Her interests included gardening, birdwatching, traveling, reading, Swedish weaving, pine needle baskets, enjoying her family, camping, hunting and playing on an adult volleyball team. She is survived by her husband, Omar of Wallowa; three daughters, Kathy (Gary) Willett of Wallowa; Sandy (Jim) Le- Tourneux of Sheridan, Ore.; and Susie Madigan (Rick) of En- terprise; two step-children, Becky (Lee) Bristow of Prineville, Ore., and Daniel (Debra) Stubblefi eld of Fossil, Ore. She is also survived by two siblings, Barbara Raines of Wallowa and Jack Larkin of Boise, Idaho, and 6 grandchildren, 4 great-grandchil- dren, 12 step grandchildren, 31 step great-grandchildren and 7 step great-great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by two siblings, Evelyn Wise and Lena Wise; husband Robert Womack, son Steve Womack and step-daughter Rose Merry Nelson. A celebration of her life will be 1 p,.m. Friday, May 19, at Enterprise LDS Church, Bishop Garrett Lowe and Bob Barney offi ciating. A meal will follow at the church. Memorial donations may be made in her name to the Wal- lowa Senior Center. A celebration of her life will be held 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. May 20 at the Island City City Hall. Carolee was born Nov. 17, 1943, in Pendleton, to William Donald Strobel and Delores Ruby Williams. She graduated from Wallowa High School and received a nursing degree from Blue Mountain Community College in 1979. She worked at and retired from Grande Ronde Hospital in the OB department. She also taught certifi ed nursing assistant classes assisted by two of her granddaughters. Carolee enjoyed delivering babies, but most of all she loved being with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. After re- tiring from the medical fi eld, she took up long-arm quilting. She was not afraid to be creative with her designs, which led to a high demand for her quilts. Quilt-making was Carolee’s passion and her family says it put a smile on her face that would light up the room. Survivors include her sons, Darren Dixon and Dee Dixon; four sisters; and seven grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Roger Engelson, and eldest son, David Dixon.
