Town Talk Classified Ads, The Mightiest Little Salesmen In Town r. d i HOUSTON MANAGER - Harry Craft, left, it the new man agar of fhe Houston National League baseball team. Craft poses in Cincinnati with his former boss, Bill McKechnie, for whom he played on the championship Redleg team in 1939 and '40. Plebe sought by officials at West Point WEST POINT, N.Y. (UPI) -West Point officials today awaited public help in locating an 18-year-old plebe who disappeared without a trace more than six weeks ago. Paul M. Weaver, who came to the U.S. Military Academy July 5 after having been president of his class at Portsmouth, Ohio, and center on the football team, was reporting missing Aug. 30. His disappearance was revealed only Thursday, apparently be cause all clues to his whereabouts proved fruitless. , Academy officials, still baffled by the disappearance almost 12 years ago of another Ohio cadet, turned to Weaver's father, his in structors and his girl friend for information about the youth. Paid M. Weaver Sr. of Ports mouth, said his son might be working on a farm because he had a desire to become a veterin ariar. The father also said Weav er knew how to operate several business machines. Weaver lives at 1613 Highland Ave. Weaver's officers at West Point reported he was finding the strict ly disciplined program more de manding than he had expected and had several times expressed a desire to resign but "had ap parently readjusted" about half way through the summer. He showed similar dissatisfac tion with the academy's regimen tation in a letter to 17-year-old Debbie Peebles of Portsmouth, but he added that he had worked hard to get there and was proud to be a West Pointer. Only a short time after he wrote the letter, however. Weaver vanished, leaving his wallet, mon ey and all other belongings be hind. The last person to fee him was a doctor who treated him at the academy hospital for a minor ear ailment. In the 12 year-old mystery. Ca det Richard Cox of Mansfield. Ohio, signed out of his company's orderly room to have dinner at a hotel on the military reservation and was never seen again. Project plans are announced WASHINGTON 'CPU - The Interior Department Friday an nounced plans for a $271.5 mil lion construction program by the Reclamation Bureau during the current fiscal year. Interior Secretary Stewart L. Udall said the program ultimately would provide an additional wa ter supply for irrigating nearly 1.5 million acres of land and add nearly 1.9 million kilowatts of hydroelectric power to the nation's electric power capacity. The program is to be financed under a $274 million appropriation approved by Congress. Reclamation Com missioner Floyd E. Dominy said the pro gram would include seven new reclamation project construction starts. He listed the new construction starts as the San Luis unit of the Central Valley Project. California: western division of the Dalles Project and Bully Creek extension of the Vale Project, both in Ore gon: Canadian River Project. Texas; and Emery County Project in the Colorado River Storage Project, l ull. Also included in the new con struction appropriations were Red Bluff Diversion Dam. California, and the Avondale-Dalton Gardens Harden Lake pipe rehabilitation project, Idaho. TACKLE MENTAL ILLS WASHINGTON UTI Presi dent Kennedy said Wednesday it was "high time" for the I'nited States to tackle problems of men Lit retardation. He made the statement to members of hn newly created Mental Retardation Panel, which was charged with developing a broad new program to deil with this problem. tUBEii LOST?
