Ingrid Back In Europe After Visit NEW YORK (UP) Ingrid Bergman was here over the week end. Sunday night she went back to Paris. . The visit lasted 34 hours. Miss Bergman came to accept the New York Fllm. Critics Award for her 'role in Anastasia, but spent most of her time mending fences in -film fandom. She smiled just about the whole time, even when complaining that Americans expected her to smile too much. , Miss Vergman was smiling when the airliner that brought her here from Paris pulled to a halt at Idle- wild International Airport at 8:25 a.m. EST Saturday. She was smil ing when she stepped down the ramp 15 minutes later, bundled in mink and a white babushka. Then she beamed her way through an airport mob scene, a session with newspaper photogra phcrs, a news conference, a S3 ries of television interviews and tape recorded iifterviews French, Italian and German. "Now we need one interview in' Chinese," she said. She laughed when she said that. During an hour of interviews at the airport, Miss Bergman an swered almost every question. She left htr exact .age (39 to 42) a secret. She denied a rift with her husband. She refused to commenl when told a former U.S. senator who once wanted her banned from flic U.S. had decided !o lorgive ier. "It was pretty tough in those days," she said, smiling, "b u t time lakes care of everything.' Had she been worried about the reception she would receive here I wasn't worrid, she said. "I have never been worried about anything. If I was worried, I would be another character." What about all the publicity she had received? "My life is yours," she told the press. Did she have any regrets? "I have never regretted any thing." Had her celebrated romance v.ith Roberto Rossellini hurt her career? "No. not at all." With that, .Miss Bergman was off for a round of activities olanned for her by the two 20th- Century-Fox press agents assigned to her for her stay. BItINO VOI R SHOVELS SAN GABRIEL. Calif.
