' Parker Refuses to Sign Contract For Next Year DETROIT (UP) Detroit Lions Coach Buddy Parker left the bourd of directors ieeling like Ed Mead ows had tackled each and every one of them. ' Parker, one of the most success fill coaches in the business, :e fused to sign a contract for 1957. Neither he nor Lions President Edwin J. Anderson would elabo rate. Anderson said the directors of fered Parker a new contract, re portedly a two-year pact at $30,000. But Anderson would net say why Parker wouldn't accept it. . Parker said he was not resign ing, that he would stay with the club until his present contract runs out Dec. 31. But that only left the officials more up In the air and asking "What happened? Evashevski Hoping to Control Oregon State Speed PASADENA, Calif Iowa foot ball Coach Forest Evashevski said today he is seriously concerned about stopping Oregon State's fast and dangerous running attack in tie New Year's Rose Bowl game. "Oregon State's speed will hurt anyone, and we must control it, ' Evashevski said.
