Reunion Held By Brothers Three brothers are joining here this week in their first reunion in some 35 years. They are George M. Arnold, Chi cago, III., engineer; Robert Arn old, of Los Angeles, CaJif., ani J. F. Arnold, long time resident of Bend. However, the Bend country is not new to Robert Arnold. He served as topographer with a rail road crew when the Hill and Har riman systems built their dual lines up the Deschutes gorge more than 45 years ago,, then came Into Bend from Metolius over a single line. The Bend man and his wife met the visiting brothers yesterday ct the Redmond airport and brought them to Bend. Barton, head ot the Missionary District of Eastern Oregon, with headquarters at Bend, will be one of the leading speakers at the annual Oregon Town and Country church confer ence to be held at Oregon State college, Oct. 24-27. Bishop Barton's address is entitled "A Churchman Looks at a Vital Town and Coun try Church." The theme of this year's confer ence follows the title of the bish op's lalk. It will deal with many aspects of work for the rural anu town church. Speakers from as far I away as Harvard University and Berkeley, Calif., will make pres entations of programs of interest to churches working with rural people. A new approach to church elevation offered by the comer- ence is to have people with differ ent relationships to rural life tell what they think of the town and country church. The conference has been de signed over the years to afford a sounding board for the opinions of the laity and clergy alike. The past years have seen a growing number of lay people not only at tend, but to participate fully in the planning and the execution of the program. All major religious demonina- tions in the state, as well as farm agencies, will be representee; at the meetings. The conference of fers one of the few opportunities for people of all faiths to work and plan together. Registrations may be made with Mrs. Mabel Mack at Oregon State college or may be made at the Memorial Union at any time during the ses sions. Plans Favored By Examiner WASHINGTON (UP) A Federal Power Commission examiner to day recommended issuance of a 50-year license to the city of Eu gene, Ore., for construction and operation of its proposed Beaver Marsh hydroelectric project on the MeKenzie river in Lane and Linn counties, Ore. The final decision is up to the full commission. The project is estimated to cost $8,538,000 and would have an installed capacity of 30,000 kilowatts. The examiner, Francis L. Hall, dismissed arguments advanced by the Save-The-McKen- zie-River Association. The associa tion opposed granting the applica tion on grounds the project would mar scenic and recreational values and fish life in the area.
