The' Bend Bulletin, Tuesday, June 21, 1955 by Nddlne Seltxer Boat Accident Fatal for Man GRANTS PASS (UP) Collis lames Dolmage. 41 - year - old Grants Pass contractor, drdwned in the Rogue river near here yes terday when his boat overturned. His brother and five children were rescued. Two fishermen helped Dolmage's brother, William. 29, and the five children to shore after the acci dent. Dolmage also was pulled ashore but was pronounced dead on arrival at a local hospital. Witnesses said the boat hit a stump and overturned while Dol mage was trying to lift the engine out of the water. Kept in Touch For 52 Years CHICAGO (UP) A round robin letter has kept five women in touch with each other for 52 years. They all were close friends at August ana College, Rock Island, 111., at the turn of the century. Fearful of losing their friendship as they inevitably . became sep arated, they began circulating let ters. All are more than 70 now. But the letters have continued unin terrupted, bearing news of the joys and heartbreaks of their lives. "It's been a wonderful way to keep us together," said Mrs. Ma rie Lofgren of Racine, Wis., "and we really have been kept close." Every month or so a member of the circle receives an envelope with five letters. She discards the letter she wrote the last time around and adds a new one, send ing them on to the next member. Others in the round-robin circle are: Mrs. May Shoberg of San Diego, Calif., Mrs. Anna Thompson of Wil liamsfield, 111., Mrs. Hilma Isaac son of Gowrie, la., and Mrs. Hul da Carlson of Galesburg, 111. Red Hat Day Plan Promoted PORTLAND (UP) National at tention has been focused on Red Hat Day, L. C. Binford, chairman of Gov. Paul Patterson's Red Hat Day committee said Monday. Binford said that Rep. Harris Ellsworth has inserted in the 1 louse congressional records statement outlining the aims of the safety program and calling for other states to follow Oregon's lead. The Red Hat program calls for improved hunter condupt and im proved relations between land owners and sportsmen. Eight members were present and at the business meeting voted to contribute $5 to the muscular dystrophy fund which is a project of these clubs throughout the state. The quarterly report was made out and general cleanup day for the hall was set for June 2-llh. The next meeting will be held at the home of Mrs. Elizabeth Walters on July 21st. Larry Linville of Lebanon was a guest at the Bertil Nelson home the past week. Mr. and Mrs. John Snyder and family of Prineville were callers at the Hooper Dyer home on Sat urday. Pioneer park, Bend, was the scene of the regular meeting of the Arnold Ladies Sewing club last Thursday afternoon. Mrs. Tim Lane was hostess. A large group was in attendance and guests in cluded Mrs. William Pepper and daughter of Bremerton. Wash., Miss Delores Andrews of Sweet Home and Mrs. M. Andrews of Bend. The next meeting will be the annual picnic to be held at the Pioneer park on July 6- Richard Koth, who has been re cently discharged from the U. S. Navy after serving his term, is now employed in Portland and spent the past weekend visiting at the home of his sister, Mrs. Rob ert Reif and at the Ira Cox home. He is the foster son of the Cox's. Art Paul, son of Mr. and Mrs. E. W. Paul left Saturday morning with the Explorer Scouts to at tend an overnight hike at Green lakes near Broken Top. His broth er Carl, left Saturday morning by plane for Portland where he will attend the Civil Air Patrol session for a week. Robert, Ralph Jr., and Richard, sons of Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Emer son Sr., who live on the Arnold road, are at national guard camp at Fort Lewis, Wash. They will return on Saturday. Mr. and Mrs. William Pepper and daughter. Sharon and Miss Cary Wiseman, all of Bremerton, Wash., are visiting at the home of Pepper's sister, Mrs. Kenneth Slack and her family this week. BHS Graduate Enlists in AF Jon y. Allison, son of Mr. and Mrs. Walter E. Allison, Bend, has enlisted in the U.S. Air Force, ac cording to information from T-Sgt. Donald Adams, local L'SAF re cruiter. Allison was graduate;! from Bend high school with the class of lft5. The Bend youth was flown from Portland to Parks AFB. Calif , where he will be stationed for 11 weeks basic training prior to as signment for training in an air force technical speciality. j Portland Slaying Quickly Cleared PORTLAND (L'P)-Portland po lice cleared up a slaving within 17 hours with the confession late Sun day of Cherry Lucille Morris. 31. that she shot and killed her hiMwind. 12 year-old Claude Me Cormick Morris. She told police her husband threatened her with a hatchet, hammer and rifle before she man him and shoot him once through the chest. She claimed she didn't need to wrest the weapon from know the rifle w.if loaded. Detectives Mike O'Leary and Jhn Hunt booked her on a murder charge. The shooting occurred Saturday , night.
