Walt Horan, It., Wash., said today the railroads are "pricing them selves out of the market" for farm freight in the Pacific north' west. As freight rates have mounted since the war, Horan said, truck hauling of farm goods has In creased steadily. The Interstate commerce commission granted the freight increases on railroad pxoflt-and-loss statements, Horan said. "The commission has consis tently refused." he said, "to exam ine the efficiency of the roads themselves, to determine whether they are wasting money through obsolete practices, featherbedding labor policies or Just plain poor management." Whatever the reason for the increases, he said, they and the 10 per cent "war tax" dlscrimin ate against the northwest con sumer and shipper. Horan said truck shipments were increasing to such an ex tent that he has asked the agri culture department to report truck movements In Its market news service. Such reports would "guarantee a true picture of farm commodity movements, he said.
