Sharon Moran was a house guest at the John Gunter home during her parents' absence. Mr. and Mrs. Lowell Dent left the f irst of the week for an indefi nite stay in Australia. Mr. and Mrs. Wade Short and Mr. and Mrs. H. L. Friday attend ed the Pacific International stock show in Portland last week. A 1 o'clock luncheon honor ing Mrs. Frances Smith, state P.J..O. president, and Mrs. Laura McCready, state organizer for , P.E.O., was held October 18 at the Redmond Pine Tavern. After the luncheon the group held a busi ness meeting at the home of Mi's. Willetta Hodecker. The next meeting will be Thursday at 2 p.m. at the home of Mrs. Orpha Cunning. Mrs. Willetta Hodecker has her mother for a house guest this week. Mrs. Hodecker s mother came to Redmond October 10 and has made no definite plans for re turning to her home. Mr. and Mrs. Ted Loney and Mr. and Mrs. Howard Newbill visited the Toby Shirley family of Prineville, Sunday, October 16. Mr. Shirley, who suffered a knee injury recently, underwent surg ery in a Portland hospital. His condition since returning to his home in Prineville is satisfactory. The Shirleys are former resi dents of Redmond. Mrs. T. I. Loney and Mrs. George Bailey represented the Redmond Rebekahs at the F. I convention held in Newport Oc tober 8-. Mrs. Bailey acted as warden at the banquet, which preceded the business meeting. Neil Tripp, brother of Mrs. E. D. Adams, made his headquar ters at the Adams home while he hunted. He left for his home in Phoenix, Ore., Wednesday. The F. L. Girls' clubs of Oregon have voted to buy new chairs and tables lor the Oud hello ws home in Portland. This action was tak en at tne recent meeting. Volunteer workers for the hos pital project held a 7:30 p.m. din ner at the Redmond hotel Monday to work out details of the new plan proposed for building the Memorial hospital. L. D. Barr, campaign manager, discussed the tax proposal. J. R. Roberts also talked on the taxation platform. Joe Brown explained the method of assessing taxes in this district, and Ted Conn, from Lake view- explained the law governing the tax plan which was passed by recent legislation. About 100 workers and speak ers attended the dinner. Robert Lowell, Ray Shumway, Craig Eby and Jack Alley, dele gates from the Redmond F.F.A. chapter, boarded the train from Eugene October 7 to Davis, Calif., where they changed to a Pullman and went on to Kansas City, Mo., to attend the National Future Farmers convention. The boys made their, headquar ters at the St. Regis hotel in Kan sas City. Between business ses sions they wedged in three con ducted tours, to the zoo, the Ford and the Chevrolet assembly plants. Two hundred American Farm er degrees were awarded at the convention, three to Oregon Fu ture Farmers. Featured at the meetings were a band and a chorus compqsed of uieiiiuers seiecieo irom me vari ous chapters over the United States. The Redmond group left Kan sas City October 13 and arrived home October 16. The delegates will give reports of their trip to various organiza tions during the next few weeks. Coast League Not Of Major Status Washington, Oct. 21 UPi Bucky Harris, new manager of the Washington Senators, described the Pacific Coast league today as nothing more than "a good mi nor league." Asked about coast hopes of achieving major league status, the former San Diego, Cal., pilot replied that the far west loop "is Just what it's rated a triple-A circuit and no more. It's certainly not in the majors." Harris gave up his San Diego post when he signed a contract Wednesday to manager the Wash ington . club in the American league for the next three years.
