Sport Parade By (War FnUey (United r-reu Sporti Writer) New York, Dec. 21 ilPl Droop ing attendance and poor officiat ing today concerned .mid-western basketball coaches visiting the the east as they pulled no punches against the ills currently affect ing college basketball. - Hu.sky Jack Gardner of Kansas State and lean Bruce Drake of Oklahoma took a healthy swipe at those items. And then they added that perhaps basketball is scheduling too many games per team; that television Is becoming an Increasing problem and that maybe they and othef coaches are teaching the wrong- type game. Gardner, whose team just com pleted a cross-country jaunt, was particularly outspoken. Comment ing on plans everywhere to build larger field houses, he said: "We may have seen our hey day as far as crowds are concern ed. The people just don't have the money and aren't spending." Gardner also was bitter about officiating generally. "It's been pretty poor and the only answer Is that we need younger men to handle our games; men just out of school who recognize contact." One of the "two big" spots, ac cording to the Kansas State coach, was tho San Francisco Cow palace. "It's so big there that it clouds up and rains inside," he chuckled, "joe DIMagglo is about the only guy who could throw a baseball up to the roof." Having played across the na tion, Gardner had things to say which might not please the fans in St. Louis. He Insisted that San Francisco and Santa Clara were as good as highly-touted St. Louis and that Ed McCauley, star of the St. Louisans, couldn't "carry the shoes" of Kentucky s Alex Groza Drake, the Oklahoma pilot, em phasized that courts coaches RAY COOPER INSURANCE AGENCY - (MjRAY COOPER) SAME LOCATION FOOT OREGON AVE. 1 Door North Pine Tavern PHONE 162-W For year 'round enjoyment Give the Family a Radio- r Phonograph mks&?tv7 vttf If RCA victor i : ti I I I us mm. ? "But I am certain that after this season you will see a tapering off of the offense. The difficulty Is that we have had a great num ber of returning service men who were polished ball players. So we could go out and try to out score the other guy."
