Newspaper Page TextPAGE SIX Annual Concert To Be Presented By Band Tonight Last-minute preparations were being made today tor Bend high school's annual spring band con cert to be held this evening at 8 o'clock In the high school gymna sium. The concert, one of the two main musical events sponsored each year by the school, will pre sent the concert band and the girls' choir, under the direction of C. Dale Robblns, music instructor. Assisting with arrangements for the program are Albert Westfall, Pherren Moody, and Delles Hince, who will handle the staging; Dor othy Bvrd. decorator; and Jarrell Thompson and Leonard Peoples, in charge of lighting. Because of wartime restrictions, the district competition in Spo kane, Wash., has been discon tinued, and visiting Judges will assign district ratings to the band and choir on the basis of tonight's performance. Cordon Requests Fire Aid Funds Portland, April 21 IIP) U. S. Sen. Guy Cordon, (R), Ore., ap pearing before the senate ap propriations committee, urged an immediate increase in federal funds for cooperative use with the states in forest fire protec tion, it was learned today. Cordon asked an increase of $2,500,000 annually. "The government has called for an Increase in lumber production, particularly for crating war ma terial," he told the committee "Should Oregon have a dry sum mer resulting in widespread fires, the diversion of manpower to flreflghting would necessitate mills shutting down and seriously curtail lumber production vital ly needed for crating offshore war shipments." Delinquencies in Taxes Reduced Salem, April 21 dpi Tax de linquencies in Oregon have been reduced by more than $26,000,000 in the past nine years according to a compilation just completed by Charles V. Galloway, chair man of the state tax commission. The property tax delinquency in this state which hit a peak of $46,510,000 on December 31, 1935, had been reduced to $20,222,912.22 on August 15, 1943, Galloway said. The delinquency llgures repre sent 3.64 per cent of the total tax levied during the period covered.
