Velo city of wind: 10 p. m. 8 miles; 10 a. m. 8 miles. Glenn Lay, son of Mr. and Mrs. D. M. Lay, 720 Riverside, Is home on a 15-day leave from St. Mary's, where 1b a member of the U. S. navy air corps. Glenn achieved an honor roll status at St. Mary's, and his present leave was his re ward. He has been In the service for the past eight months. Mrs. Conn Fitzgerald of Bend has returned from San Francisco, Calif., where she attended the wedding of her son, Staff Sgt. Maurice ' P. Angland of Bend, whose bride Is the former Anna Jean Williamson of Mill Valley, Calif. The ceremony was perform ed Easter Sunday in St. Carmel's Catholic church. While Staff Sgt. Angland is stationed in San Fancisco the couple will make their home there. Ralph W. Crawford, supervisor of the Deschutes national forest, today made a trip of Inspection to the ranger headquarters at Crescent. Mr. and Mrs. J. Lodwig, of La pine, were guests yesterday at the Pilot Butte inn. Coming here from Prlneville, Mr. and Mrs. C. A. Downie were visitors here yesterday. Mr. and Mrs. Harvey Mosley of Burns, were Bend callers today. Mrs. James Ness and Mrs. Ken neth Cox were Bend visitors yes terday from Shevlin, registering at the Pilot Butte Inn. J. W. SsT THE Homemakers Of Deschutes Open Meeting Members of extension units all over the county today met at Pine Forest grange hall for their: annual Homemakers program, the only scheduled event during the year when women of the county meet together to discuss their mutual homemakers' problems and achievements. The hall had been hung with spring blossoms and other season al decorations for the affair, with tne theme carried out on the serv ing table. Exhibits were displayed this morning preceding a potluck luncheon, and an extensive pro gram was planned lor the after noon hours with MaJ. William H. Andrew, Camp Abbot chaplain, and Miss Lucy Lane, Oregon State college clothing specialist, the featured speakers. Members of the county exten sion committee, headed by Miss Elizabeth Boeckli, home demon stration agent, were in charge of arrangements for the county wide meet. ' lima Sparks, both of Bend. APRIL 21, Many Children Attend Clinic "Highly satisfactory" was the opinion voiced by Dr. Elmer Carl son of Portland, at. the crippled children's clinic held yesterday in the public health department offices in which Dr. Carlson was the examining physician. Forty five children with crippled con ditions, including 14 new cases, were examined and advisea oy Dr. Carlson, who stated that the large number of patients at me clinic indicated a hiah rate of In terest in the crippled children's Droeram by local physicians, through whom appointments to the conference were made. Including in the number re ceiving service were nine chil dren from Crook county, two from Klamath and one from Was co. Assisting Dr. Carlson, who is a member of the national academy of orthopedic surgeons, were Miss Margaret Simpson, consultant or thopedic nurse with the crippled children's division of the Uni versity of Oregon medical school, and Miss Esther Gillette, physio therapist with the division who instructed in postural exercises and other physiotherapeutic meas ures. Advise Given At least four of the patients were advised to undergo plastic surgery, for which arrangements will be made, and at least two children were recommended for admittance to the Shrine hospital in Portland, it was disclosed. The clinic is sponsored locally by the Deschutes county welfare commission and the public health department A part of the chil dren's bureau program of the U. S. department of labo, crip pled children's clinics in Oregon are conducted by the university medical school. Time Extension Given District Allowance of an additional two years to do reclamation work on lands under the Central Oregon Irrigation district, has been grant ed by State Engineer Charles E. Stricklln, it became known here today. The extension runs to Jan uary 1, 1946, it was stated. Because of the fact that several previous extensions have been granted, it was held, likely that no further time would be auowea, and ranchers were urged to ex pedite their improvements and the beneficial use of the CIO water, as the law requires. Retired Officer Is Bend Visitor Major Perry B. Jackson, U. S. army, retired, was a visitor In Bend yesterday. Major Jackson, a frequent viistor to Bend in past years and a close friend of R. M. Smith of this city, entered the regular army in 1903, retired in 1935, was recalled to active duty In 1941, then was returned to the retired list recently after reaching the active duty age limit. Major Jackson, who plans to make his home in San Francisco, served in the infantry until 1917, then entered the air corps.
