There are on an average 15 cars from outside the state register- ' ing every day, which means that a much greater number is coming through, as most of them register at points nearer the state boundary. Central Oregon and the Willamette valle have been brought closer to gether by many miles as a result of tho pass highway improvement, as evidenced by the fact that valley farmers have begun to bring their produce to Bend. Cookson, missing ranch mistress And writer, told her servants the day of , her strange disappearance. "Be sure and feed the cats." Mrs. Charles deer, wife of the care taker of Mrs. Cookson's ranch at the head of Santiago canyon, told otft-l cers today of the mysterious !etve' taking of her mistress. "She mWer acted as strange be fore," she said. "She told me to feet the cat! and kill tha doi if she wasn't back Id ti hours. "The dog was her constant com panion on excursions into the moun tains. She wanted his ashes put It an urn and placed on the shelf in her library." Authorities had made little pro gress today after -IS hours of inten sive searching for the missing worn an. They admitted frankly they hu not unearthed single Hew which i might hint at the nature of her fat IflS, Cookson's scattered, effects tound near her ahaudotied automo . bile hinted at an encounter and tool officers are attempting lu trace hei past in the belief she may have had a ; clandestine admirer responsible for' her disappearance late Monday night. Footprints of a man who wore 11 inch shoes were found iu the vicinity of the ranch woman's deserted auto mobile, and on that elew -alone up to the present hinges a possible solu ! ton of the mysterious case. It is believed this secret suitor. fascinated by Mrs. Cookson's beauty aud personality, waylaid her on hei return from a visit to neighbors and. either abducted or murdered her. A third search of the lagoon In Orange County park failed to give n a body today. It was near the little park lake that officers found Mrs Cookson's abandoned automobile, lit i tered with bits of her clothing, hei crumpled hat, shoes and shreds Ol i hair. A company of eowhyyg eotnhed tin , canyon foothills, while an alrplatu ' buzzed overhead, hut no irace of the' ranch woman's whereabouts was r vealed. Mrs. Cookson wrote for DOpttll magazines under the pen name "Lee Chambers." A final bit of writing a torn letter addressed to Mrs. Marv McKeever, a sister, exposed a promo nition she feared for her life at the hands of some sinister force. Official Temperature Makes 93 Degrees Here Bend's holiest weather since June 2 came this afternoon when the mercury in the official thermometer rose to D.I degrees, overruling the mandates of clouds which had over cast the sky since early morning. A thunderstorm with a trace of rain, however, had lowered the heat to 89 degrees at :! o clock. Apparently the heat was excessive, but this was due in no small degree to the unusual humidity rate. It waa the first time thbt month that a temperature In excess of 90 degrees had been reached.
