Isaiah 55:6.7. ' FORESIGHT I bouKln ten utm by the Blough the place had little charm but I believed that it would tl for my mock turtle farm. It was a waste of nuiil anil sand, with stunted slinilis and trees, and people couldn't understand why I'tl invest in these. I knew it wasn't worth a cent for any purpose sane, but I'm a mail, contrary cent, with fantods in my brain. Then some one found a meerschaum mine upon adjoining laud, anil great promoters formed' in lino, a checkbook in each hand. They offered me a hundred times what I had lately paid for that array of sands ami slimes, trees blasted and decayed. 1 took their money with the grace which Shrouds the princely jrent, and. in. a safe and rust-proof place it yield's me six per cent. Ami now I have a wide renown as being ultra-wise: 1 am the gossip of the town, the sight for all sore eyes. I am the man who saw ahead, who pierced the future's veil, and bought a bog, a place of dread, ami turned it into kale. The men who said 1 was insane when 1 put down the price have changed their minds ami now are tain to ask me tor advice. And ever, always, I expect, as through this vale I tread, men's awe ami Homage l il collect, as one wno looKeil aluuil. I rule in pomp and circumstance, in garments rich ami fine, but all my fortune came by chance, through no device of mine. In prudence I in an also ran. in foresight I'm a gvp, hut legends fasten to a man, and never lose their grip. McKenzie Silver-Black Fox Ranch Rainbow, Oregon HEfil LATE PARKING It is high tlmo that stops worr tak en to regulate automobile purkine on the business streets of llend. The congestion of automobiles on Wall street was so Kreat a year ago that it was often a difficult thing tit set In to the curb to place purchases in a car. This summer the condition has become so much worse that it is frenently dangerous even to drive on the street. The reason for litis condition is found in the fact that shoppers and cars making deliveries along the street, finding themselves unable to get to the curb, are now stopping in the street back of the parked cars and leaving only a narrow lane for the passage of traffic. This double parking doubles the dangers of the street and should be put an end to. Pedestrians are continually stepping out from the vicinity of double parked cars, delivery men walk out with armsful of packages and there are a score of accidents barely avoided daily. Some day the acci dent will occur. The fire truck, for example, may swing the corner of Minnesota confident of a clear course and run into Aside from the question of the dangers In the present condition there are to be considered the inter ests of the merchants along the street, and the convenience of tour ists and other shoppers. Perhaps are merchants are not Interested and in that case no one need do any worrvini? for thorn l.,,t be 'es.nornl Jh.s.l ,.. Kemle pass behalf of the tourist and the business of making it easy for him to shop. The regulation of parking will take a utile extra policing. However. It This morning she received a telegram stating that ihe automobile had brok en dpwn and thai the family were coming on to Bend by train. No further particulars were given. The Thorn family are on their way here from Wausau. Wsiconsin. "Perfect" Extortion Plot Characterized As Childish tlT. P. LraMtl Wir to Tht BnJ Bulletin) SAN PRANC18CO, July I.
