' October .5 and 6 are the dates set fur the annual West Side Agricul tural Fair, to be held in Tumalo. : With a better year, with more farmers producing more and hotter crops, -with livestock they are happy to display,' the farmers are looking keenly forward to something in the nature of a real treat for Centra'. Oregon lovers of fine livestock, ve getables, grains, grasses, foods and needle work. The livestock of the county will come Into its own at this year's ex hibit. For the first time thero bus been set aside a seperate department for the exhibition of pure-brei live stock. With greater interest in the last year in the improvement' of their herds the farmers are anxious to display what can be done with purebred stock as opposed to scrub stock. , It is expected that there will be more than 35 exhibitors of pure bred livestock, in which event this will be the largest display of live stock ever shown in Deschutes coun ty.' Boys and Girls Interested. . The Boys and Gilrs Clubs will hers their place ia the livestock features of the fair. , There are more than 43 pig club members in the county, of which a majority be long to the First National Bank I'ig Club. The younsters beiongl.it; to these clubs will have a contest all their own and will be permitted to judge against the old folks on prize livestock. With several hundred acres, pre viously not under cultivation, seeded last year to alfalfa there will bo competition in the'Grlmm and Cos sack alfalfa growers. ' More than 300 growers are eligible to compete in this class. , , . The premium list which will be published soon will contain more than double the activities of any other year. The merchants of Red mond have come to the front to as sist the Tumalo people In promoting their fair with a subscription uf $200. The First National Bank lias appropriated $100 and Deschutes county $500. It is expected that this year's fair will give the people of Central Ore gon a more comprehensive idea as to the type of farmers on the Tunis ia project and what they are doing to make Central Oregon a produc ing center. The farmers are ex pecting an unusually good yield. The Ladies' Pioneer club enter tained -their husbands and children in a most delightful manner Inst Friday evening. Tables were spread for about 100 guests and ice cream and cake were served in generous portions, followed by a program of witty toasts, music und surprise stunts by the ladies.
