OCT. 5-6 TUMALO FAIR DATES;
LIVESTOCK TO BE FEATURE
t .
' October .5 and 6 are the dates set
fur the annual West Side Agricul
tural Fair, to be held in Tumalo.
: With a better year, with more
farmers producing more and hotter
crops, -with livestock they are happy
to display,' the farmers are looking
keenly forward to something in the
nature of a real treat for Centra'.
Oregon lovers of fine livestock, ve
getables, grains, grasses, foods and
needle work.
The livestock of the county will
come Into its own at this year's ex
hibit. For the first time thero bus
been set aside a seperate department
for the exhibition of pure-brei live
stock. With greater interest in the
last year in the improvement' of
their herds the farmers are anxious
to display what can be done with
purebred stock as opposed to scrub
stock. , It is expected that there will
be more than 35 exhibitors of pure
bred livestock, in which event this
will be the largest display of live
stock ever shown in Deschutes coun
ty.' Boys and Girls Interested.
. The Boys and Gilrs Clubs will
hers their place ia the livestock
features of the fair. , There are
more than 43 pig club members in
the county, of which a majority be
long to the First National Bank I'ig
Club. The younsters beiongl.it; to
these clubs will have a contest
all their own and will be permitted
to judge against the old folks on
prize livestock.
With several hundred acres, pre
viously not under cultivation, seeded
last year to alfalfa there will bo
competition in the'Grlmm and Cos
sack alfalfa growers. ' More than
300 growers are eligible to compete
in this class. , , .
The premium list which will be
published soon will contain more
than double the activities of any
other year. The merchants of Red
mond have come to the front to as
sist the Tumalo people In promoting
their fair with a subscription uf
$200. The First National Bank lias
appropriated $100 and Deschutes
county $500.
It is expected that this year's fair
will give the people of Central Ore
gon a more comprehensive idea as
to the type of farmers on the Tunis
ia project and what they are doing
to make Central Oregon a produc
ing center. '
