Simon Baker, Owain Yeoman, Robin Tunney, Tim Kang and Amanda Righetti star in “The Mentalist” Titus Welliver stars in “Bosch” By Jessica Gosse TV Media “Bosch” Season 6 On Friday, April 17, don’t miss the Season 6 premiere of this procedural drama based on the many crime novels written by Michael Connelly about the cases of Det. Harry Bosch. Titus Welliver (“Deadwood”) stars as the epon- ymous detective, alongside Jamie Hector (“The Strain”), who plays his partner, Det. Jerry Edgar. The pair works together to solve cases in Los Angeles. Each season thus far has focused on one or more of Connelly’s 31 Bosch novels, and Season 6 is based on the events of “The Overlook,” Connelly’s 13th novel to feature the detective. Bosch joins forces with the FBI as he investigates the murder of a medical physicist and the disap- pearance of a large amount of radioactive material. In the wrong hands, those materials could poi- son the entire city, or could even be used to create a dirty comb and cause another 9/11-type situation. Now, Bosch must work alongside the FBI in order to save not only his family, but the city he has sworn to protect. whomever is stuck in quarantine with you, hopefully you haven’t reached the point of insanity the way Willem Dafoe (“Aquaman,” 2018) and Robert Pattinson (“Water for Elephants,” 2011) do in this Oscar-nominated drama. Available for streaming on Thurs- day, April 16, the two actors star as superstitious lighthouse keeper Thomas Wake (Dafoe) and his new apprentice, Ephraim Winsolw (Pattinson). Isolated on an island off the coast of New England, Winslow struggles to maintain his grasp on reality as he copes with the bizarre habits of Wake, vicious storms, intense labor and dwindling rations. This black-and- white psychological drama has a Lovecraftian style that will set your mind reeling. “Selah and the Spades” (2019) High school hierarchy is a com- plicated beast, but the students at the prestigious Haldwell boarding school have it down to a science in this Prime original film premiering Friday, April 17. The school is run by underground factions that feed the student body’s worst vices. There’s the Sea, former teachers’ pets who help students cheat on tests, for a price; the Skins, who cover all of the student body’s gambling desires; the Bobbys, who organize every major underground event; the Prefects, who ensure that all il- legal activity flies under the radar of the school’s administration; and the Spades, the top faction. which deals in every classic Illicit substance, from alcohol to pills. The Spades are run by Selah Sum- “The Lighthouse” (2019) Amidst the chaos of the current pandemic, most of us are stuck in quarantine and restricted to our homes for the time being. And while you may be going stir crazy, and you may be ready to throttle Willem Dafoe and Robert Pattinson as seen in “The Lighthouse” mers (Lovie Simone, “Greenleaf”), a senior who is as vicious as she is charming, and she gets rid of anyone who could even possibly diminish her position of power. As her final year goes on, Selah must deal with the reality that she will soon lose control of the Spades, and tries to assert her dominance over a sophomore named Paloma (Celeste O’Connor, “Wetlands,” 2019), who has begun to outshine her. Don’t miss this intense ado- lescent drama from Tayarisha Poe, who has been named a “Director to Watch” by both Variety and the Palm Springs International Film Festival. BINGE THIS: “The Mentalist” Simon Baker (“The Devil Wears Prada,” 2006) stars as former celebrity “psychic” Patrick Jane in this procedural drama available now in full. When his wife and daughter are brutally murdered by a serial killer named Red John, Jane is devastated, and leaves the spotlight by outing himself as a fraud who simply uses keen observational skills to read people. He then offers the use of his skills to the California Bureau of Intel- ligence, and works as a consultant with the team leading the hunt for Red John. That team is lead by the strict and professional Special Agent Teresa Lisbon (Robin Tun- ney, “Prison Break”), who is less than pleased by the addition of a civilian consultant. Rounding out the team are Kimball Cho (Tim Kang, “Magnum P.I.”), their main interrogator, Wayne Rigsby (Owain Yeoman, “Emergence”), the arson expert, and Grace Van Pelt (Amanda Righetti, “Colony”), who specializes in technology and com- puter hacking. Despite his uncon- ventional methods (that definitely don’t follow protocol), the team quickly comes to appreciate Jane’s insight and skill as they solve cases and work to track down Red John.
