real talk A style story Homes reflect homeowners in ‘One of a Kind’ By Kyla Brewer TV Media A style story: Home renova- tion shows are more popular than ever, empowering home- owners to tap into the latest home trends and styles. But a new series goes beyond what’s trending to showcase truly unique transformations. Interior designer Grace Mitch- ell — the popular blogger behind astoriedstyle.com — taps into a family’s history as she creates new spaces within their home in “One of a Kind,” premiering Tuesday, March 19, on HGTV. She and her fun-loving crew go all out as they renovate homes to reflect the stories and passions of those who live there. The eight-episode series follows Mitchell as she gets to know her clients and comes up with clever ways to add personal touches to their spaces, not just humdrum store-bought decor. “Anyone can have a home that’s catalog pretty, but a home should tell the story of the family that lives there,” Mitchell said in a news release. “My team and I take boring, outdated homes and give them personality and style.” She uses what she learns about her clients to design in- novative, personalized solutions that are custom-tailored to each family. In one episode, she cre- ates a whimsical ice cream parlor for a family with a history in the ice cream industry. Some of her unconventional ideas featured in “One of a Kind” include per- sonalized wallpaper made from a collection of love notes, wall art created with a rusted antique car, custom 3D wallpaper and a fiber- optic night sky on a din- ing room ceiling. She incorporates a fa- vorite saying into a backsplash and fin- ishes cabinets with images of special places.
