CHAMBER MEMBER SPOTLIGHT - FRAZIER OFFICE SUPPLY What made you decide “this business”? Ron worked as manager of Frazier Book Store for a couple of years. The owner wanted to pursue other business opportunities and worked with us to purchase Frazier’s. Why be a Chamber member? Networking, referrals, and promotional opportunities How long have you been in business? We officially purchased Frazier Book Store in 1985. However, Frazier Book Store was first opened in Pendleton by Lawrence Frazier in 1902. In 2000, the name was changed to Frazier Office Supply. Why do you love Pendleton? Pendleton is our hometown. We both grew up here and feel that Pendleton is welcoming and diverse while maintaining its small town feel. What should people know about your business that they may not? That we do offer solutions! From the time you walk through our door, you are our main concern. We will work closely to make sure that when you walk out the door, you either have what you need or information to further your search. Our catalog offers over 25,000 items to help make your workplace more pro- ductive and comfortable. What has been your greatest success? Knowing that Frazier Office Supply continues, for over 116 years, to provide our customers with the best in customer service and product knowledge. Ron & Debbie Bates when they purchased Frazier Book Store in 1985. Ron & Debbie Bates in 2018: looking forward to retirement! Do you have a business succession plan? We recently hired Kris Smith, also a Pendleton native. He and his wife Steph- anie’s plans are to purchase Frazier Office Supply. They will continue serve the area and plan on a seamless transition. What are your favorite local places to shop? We love to shop downtown – it is where our store is! We know and talk to these people every day. Rumor has it you are about to retire, what does retirement look like for you two? We really want to travel. Working together has been a good experience for us, but it does limit how much time off we get. We also have four grandchildren that we plan on spending lots of time with. What has been your greatest challenge as a small business owner? As every business owner, small or large knows, competition is more fierce and brutal than ever. The Amazonification of the retail world offers many chal- lenges Do you have plans for expansion? We actually purchased Hometown Office Supplies in Hermiston in June of 2016.
