BASEBALL/SOFTBALL Wednesday, March 21, 2018 Pendleton Softball Head coach: Tim Cary, 14th season Assistant coaches: Jim Newland (13th year), Josh Grass (fifth year), Kristan Garton (second year) 2017 season review: 25-5 overall, 10-2 CRC (first). Reached the Class 5A semi- final round before losing 6-5 to Marist Catholic. Returning starters: Lauren Richards, P, sr.; Kila Solomon, C, jr.; Alexi Brehaut, P/1B, sr.; Rylee Gentner, INF, sr.; Kalan McGlothan, 3B, sr.; Elli Nirschl, OF, jr.; Kirah McGlothan, OF/IF, jr.; Aspen Garton, DH/UT, jr. Newcomers: “We have a great group of freshman, sophomores, and juniors that we utilize to fill out the remaining portion of our varsity roster. We will have to wait until tryouts to see who makes the varsity.” Type of team we expect to have: “We expect to have a team that is fundamentally sound at all positions. Also, we have a large number of returning starters, which should help us handle the pressure of tough games and difficult situations. We expect ourselves to be a good hitting team up and down the lineup.” Coach’s key to a successful season: “Working together as a team and staying healthy. Coach’s key to a successful season: “The number one thing we will have to improve on is consistency,” Haguewood says. “That is what makes a good team a great team. If we want to be a great team, we have to be more consistent in our approaches at the plate, on the hill, and defensively.
