SATURDAY 1:07 a.m. - Pendleton police responded to a fight at Mosa, 140 S. Main St., Pendleton. 1:52 a.m. - And Pendleton police responded to a fight between two women at a residence on Southwest Seventh Street. 8:20 a.m. - The Pendleton Seventh-day Adventist Church, 1401 S.W. Goodwin Place, was the subject of a burglary. 3:17 p.m. - Pilot Rock police told vacuum salesmen operating at Northeast Douglas and East Main streets to go to city hall and obtain a solicitor’s permit. 7:45 p.m. - Umatilla County Fire District responded to a fire fully engulfing an SUV at Umatilla River and Bensel roads, Hermiston. Firefighters arrived at about 7:52 p.m. and found the fire spreading to nearby brush. Their attack focused on the vehicle. 8:31 p.m. - A man passed out in front of Dave’s Chevron, 220 S.W. 12th St., Pendleton. 11:20 p.m. - Pendleton police took a report of a robbery that happened at Southeast Eighth Street and Byers Avenue by the bridge. SUNDAY 2:19 a.m. - Pendleton police responded to a fight near the Pendleton Public Library, 502 S.W. Dorion Ave. 12:33 p.m. - Umatilla police responded to a domestic disturbance in a front yard on Washington Street. 1:19 p.m. - Stanfield police received information about a possible burglary on South Prescott Street, Echo. 3:27 p.m. - Multiple motion alarms went off at Pendleton High School, 1800 N.W. Carden Av., Pendleton. 10:09 p.m. - A caller reported a fight on West Juniper Avenue, Hermiston, between a nephew and uncle. ARRESTS, CITATIONS Friday •Pendleton police arrested or cited the following for driving under the influence of intoxicants: Daxton S. Jim, 26, of Owyhee; Domini Haskie, 28, of Pendleton; and Tyler Robbins, 31, of Pendleton. •Pendleton police arrested Justin Kirk Roberts, 33, of Pendleton for third-degree assault. The victim is an intern firefighter for Pendleton Fire and Ambulance Services. Pendleton Police Chief Stuart Roberts — no relation to the suspect — said a caller at about 7:30 p.m. reported a man down near the carnival in the south end of downtown. Medics arrived and found the man was awake and causing a disturbance. While trying to assess if he needed help, Justin Roberts punched the medic in the mouth. The police chief said other medics held Justin Roberts on the ground until police arrived. He also explained the felony charge of third-degree assault applied because the intern was on duty at the time. Saturday •Milton-Freewater arrested Richard G. Yeater, 21, of Walla Walla, for DUII. •Pendleton police cited Kathryn E. Miller, 31, of Pendleton, for DUII. •Pendleton police arrested Beau A. (541-567-3024) PENDLETON Project Community Connect seeks vendors, volunteers By TAMMY MALGESINI East Oregonian A coalition of different groups and individuals are seeking to connect people to resources and provide free on-the-spot services. “We’re trying to battle homelessness,” said Susie Stuvland, a case manager with Community Action Program of East Central Oregon. “Homelessness is a bigger problem than we realize. As a community, we need to link arms and try to stop it.” CAPECO, Home 4 Hope and veterans services in Umatilla and Morrow counties, Stuvland said, are reaching out to individuals and community partners to join them in presenting Project Community Connect & Umatilla/Morrow Veterans Stand Down. There is no fee for vendor space and there are many volun- teer opportunities available. A free yearly event, Project Community Connect alternates between venues in Pendleton and Hermiston. The upcoming event is Saturday, Oct. 7 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Pendleton Convention File photo Participants visit information booths during a past Proj- ect Community Connect and Veterans Stand Down. The upcoming Oct. 7 event is still seeking volunteers and vendors to participate in providing free on-the- spot services and connecting people to resources. Center, 1601 Westgate. Free transportation is available through Kayak Public Transit. Also, Pendleton Animal Welfare Shelter (PAWS) volunteers will provide “doggie day care” onsite while participants are attending the event. Stuvland said they want to provide a welcoming environment and eliminate barriers for people to attend. In addition, there will be many giveaways. People who are home- less, at risk of becoming homeless and veterans are invited to enjoy a hot meal, learn about available resources and to receive such services as a haircut, health screenings, dental care, vision examinations, pet care, clothing and hygiene supplies. Profes- sionals will be on hand to provide information about housing resources, employ- ment opportunities, adult education services, legal help (including information specific to expungement), application assistance for the Oregon Health Plan and more. Other supportive services represented will include Domestic Violence Services, Umatilla-Morrow Head Start, Women, Infants, and Children (WIC) and the Department of Human Services. Also, veterans services representatives will be on hand to discuss specific resources available to veterans, such as employ- ment, benefits information, healthcare and mental health services. Photo trip focuses on fall foliage HERMISTON — Photography enthusiasts are invited to capture the fall foliage photos during an upcoming field trip offered by Hermiston Parks & Recreation.
