Bertha Gomez
12:35 p.m. - A resident on Fir Court, Umatilla, asked to talk to
police about someone leaving with broken windows and a door
open on the northwest portion of his property.
4:37 p.m. - Pendleton police took a report about an assault at
the Round-Up Grounds.
5:37 p.m. - A 9-1-1 caller reported fishing wire trapped a bird
at the Umatilla Walk Bridge at F and Eighth street.
5:40 p.m. - A man told Pilot Rock police he was parking his
2013 Mazda 3 overnight on Southwest Birch Court and would
pick it up by 5 p.m. the next day, so please don’t tow it.
SATURDAY
1:07 a.m. - Pendleton police responded to a fight at Mosa,
140 S. Main St., Pendleton.
1:52 a.m. - And Pendleton police responded to a fight
between two women at a residence on Southwest Seventh
Street.
8:20 a.m. - The Pendleton Seventh-day Adventist Church,
1401 S.W. Goodwin Place, was the subject of a burglary.
3:17 p.m. - Pilot Rock police told vacuum salesmen
operating at Northeast Douglas and East Main streets to go to
city hall and obtain a solicitor’s permit.
7:45 p.m. - Umatilla County Fire District responded to a
fire fully engulfing an SUV at Umatilla River and Bensel roads,
Hermiston. Firefighters arrived at about 7:52 p.m. and found
the fire spreading to nearby brush. Their attack focused on the
vehicle.
8:31 p.m. - A man passed out in front of Dave’s Chevron, 220
S.W. 12th St., Pendleton.
11:20 p.m. - Pendleton police took a report of a robbery that
happened at Southeast Eighth Street and Byers Avenue by the
bridge.
SUNDAY
2:19 a.m. - Pendleton police responded to a fight near the
Pendleton Public Library, 502 S.W. Dorion Ave.
12:33 p.m. - Umatilla police responded to a domestic
disturbance in a front yard on Washington Street.
1:19 p.m. - Stanfield police received information about a
possible burglary on South Prescott Street, Echo.
3:27 p.m. - Multiple motion alarms went off at Pendleton High
School, 1800 N.W. Carden Av., Pendleton.
10:09 p.m. - A caller reported a fight on West Juniper
Avenue, Hermiston, between a nephew and uncle.
ARRESTS, CITATIONS
Friday
•Pendleton police arrested or cited the following for driving
under the influence of intoxicants:
Daxton S. Jim, 26, of Owyhee; Domini Haskie, 28, of
Pendleton; and Tyler Robbins, 31, of Pendleton.
•Pendleton police arrested Justin Kirk Roberts, 33, of
Pendleton for third-degree assault. The victim is an intern
firefighter for Pendleton Fire and Ambulance Services.
Pendleton Police Chief Stuart Roberts — no relation to the
suspect — said a caller at about 7:30 p.m. reported a man down
near the carnival in the south end of downtown. Medics arrived
and found the man was awake and causing a disturbance.
While trying to assess if he needed help, Justin Roberts
punched the medic in the mouth.
The police chief said other medics held Justin Roberts on the
ground until police arrived. He also explained the felony charge
of third-degree assault applied because the intern was on duty
at the time.

Walla, for DUII.
•Pendleton police cited Kathryn E. Miller, 31, of Pendleton,
for DUII.
•Pendleton police arrested Beau A. Wade, 39, of Pendleton,

•Pendleton police arrested Tedd Lawrence Hall, 52, of
Pendleton, for misdemeanor domestic violence assault.
•Oregon State Police arrested Reuben A. Henry, 40, of Warm
Springs, for DUII (controlled substances).
•Umatilla County Sheriff’s Office arrested Bryan Keith
Holestine, 48, no address provided, for DUII (controlled
substance) and driving while suspended/revoked.

•Pendleton police cited Woodrow D. McCall Jr., 37, of La
Grande, for DUII.
•Pendleton police arrested Jasmine Fawn McCormack, 26,
of Pendleton, for unauthorized use of a vehicle.
•Oregon State Police cited Yesica M. Villegas, 25, of Pasco,
for DUII after stopping a red Volkswagen Jetta for going the
wrong way on Southwest Emigrant Avenue at about 2:30 a.m.

Pasco, Wash., died Sunday, Sept. 17, 2017, at her home. She
was born June 28, 1936, in Edinburg, Texas. Mass of Christian
Burial will be held Saturday, Sept. 23 at 10 a.m. at Our Lady
of Angels Catholic Church in Hermiston. Burial will follow
at the Hermiston Cemetery. Burns Mortuary of Hermiston is

Project Community Connect seeks vendors, volunteers

A coalition of different
groups and individuals are
seeking to connect people to
resources and provide free
on-the-spot services.
“We’re trying to battle
homelessness,” said Susie
Stuvland, a case manager
with Community Action
Program of East Central
Oregon. “Homelessness is
a bigger problem than we
realize. As a community, we
need to link arms and try to
stop it.”

counties, Stuvland said, are
reaching out to individuals
and community partners
to join them in presenting
Project Community Connect
&
Umatilla/Morrow
Veterans Stand Down. There
is no fee for vendor space
and there are many volun-
teer opportunities available.

Connect alternates between
venues in Pendleton and
Hermiston. The upcoming
event is Saturday, Oct. 7
from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at
the Pendleton Convention

The upcoming Oct. 7 event is still seeking volunteers
and vendors to participate in providing free on-the-
spot services and connecting people to resources.

provide “doggie day care”
onsite while participants are
attending the event.
Stuvland said they want
to provide a welcoming
environment and eliminate
barriers for people to attend.
In addition, there will be
many giveaways.
People who are home-
less, at risk of becoming
homeless and veterans
are invited to enjoy a hot
meal, learn about available
resources and to receive
such services as a haircut,
health screenings, dental
care, vision examinations,
pet care, clothing and
hygiene supplies. Profes-
sionals will be on hand to
provide information about
housing resources, employ-
ment opportunities, adult
education services, legal
help (including information
specific to expungement),
application assistance for
the Oregon Health Plan and
more.
Other
supportive
services represented will
include Domestic Violence
Services, Umatilla-Morrow
Head Start, Women, Infants,
and Children (WIC) and
the Department of Human
Services. Also, veterans
services
representatives
will be on hand to discuss
specific resources available
to veterans, such as employ-
ment, benefits information,
healthcare and mental health
services.

foliage photos during an
upcoming field trip offered
by Hermiston Parks &
Recreation.
The Fall Photography
Workshop: Southeastern
Washington Fall Colors is
Saturday, Oct. 21 from 3-10
p.m. The group will depart/
return at Hermiston City
Hall, 180 N.E. Second St.
Participants will travel to
the Yakima Area Arboretum.

The leader, an experienced
photographer, will work
with people to adjust
camera settings and provide
technique tips to capture the
best of the fall foliage.
The cost is $25 for
Hermiston residents and $32
for non-residents. Dinner and
transportation is provided.

The trip is open to ages
16 and older. No experience
is necessary, but participants
need to bring their own
DSLR camera. Although
