Free Teen Classes The PCA’s Art Rocks Teens (A.R.T.) program provides FREE art and music workshops to 13-18 year olds. Run by the Teen Arts Council, A.R.T. offers a creative summer option just for teens with a snack provided before the class begins. Enrollment in any A.R.T. workshop is free- students just need a signed A.R.T. Parent Permission Form. Stop by the PCA to pick up a form, or print one off our website and bring it completed to your first class. UPCYCLED JEWELRY – ERICA EDWARDS TUESDAYS, 3:30-5:00PM, SEPT. 26 - OCT. 17 (4 SESSIONS) CUT AND PASTE COLLAGE – BONNIE DAY WEDNESDAYS, 3:30-5:00PM, OCT. 25 – NOV. 15 (4 SESSIONS) well Toothbrushes, household hardware, plastic ss bottles, old crayons… we’ll transform to random junk into trendy jewelry pieces! This ck to term we’ll also experiment with plastic resin ate to make charms and necklaces. dents will DECORATIVE MARBLING d – ERICA EDWARDS WEDNESDAYS, 3:30-5:00PM, 2)* SEPT. 27 – OCT. 18 (4 SESSIONS) 2)* Create colored swirls and paisley patterns from paint floated on water. This process is open-ended- you can be messy or neat with your patterns, and the effects are always fun. No painting experience or talent required. We’ll use marbling techniques to dress up paper, fabric and wooden items like boxes and frames. Get creative with cut out images from magazines! Collage can elicit dreamy designs, images and narratives that you’d never come up with on your own (think Hannah Höch and the Dadaists). We’ll make some collages of our own that can be used for posters, t-shirt designs and more. BOOK CLUB - COLEE MAYFIELD TUESDAYS, 3:30-5:00PM OCT. 24 – NOV. 21 (4 SESSIONS – SKIPPING OCT. 31) Book Club is a cooperative environment where students will read and discuss literature in a critical manner together. We’ll start with The Alchemist by Paulo Coehlo, then students will choose the book for Winter Term. Perfect if you love to read (or write!) and would enjoy taking a deeper dive into a good book. GUITAR AND BASS – MIKE KELLISON THURSDAYS, 3:30-5:00PM, SEPT. 28 – DEC. 14, NO CLASS NOV. 23 (11 SESSIONS) Build a solid foundation for playing the guitar or bass through learning basic chords, strumming patterns, and how to tune and care for your instrument. No music experience necessary, but if you’ve taken a class before we’ll meet your skill level. Acoustic and electric instruments are welcome. Loaner instruments are available for the duration of the class. WORKING WITH CLAY – BRIAN PURNELL THURSDAYS, 3:30-5:00PM, SEPT. 28 – DEC. 14, NO CLASS NOV. 23 (11 SESSIONS) With a primary focus on hand-building, you can explore anything from hilarious clay self-portraits to lidded boxes, to musical instruments. You’ll even get an intro to throwing pots on the wheel.
