Police: Eclipse event guards arrested, wrongly detain couple BEND (AP) — Authori- ties say three security guards were arrested for wrongfully detaining two people at an Oregon eclipse festival. The Bend Bulletin reports the three guards were arrested Tuesday morning at Big Summit Prairie and later released with their charges dropped, but the Crook County District Attorney’s Offi ce is reviewing the case. Sheriff’s deputies arrested Washington state residents Jared Leoney and Ryan Schroeder and Oregon resident Thomas THURSDAY 4:11 a.m. - Rescuers freed a semi driver from a crash near Pendleton. Oregon State Police reported a Freightliner semitrailer was westbound on Interstate 84 near milepost 212 a couple miles from Pendleton when the driver, Lavar Hatchell, 40, of Los Angeles, swerved to avoid a deer and lost control of the tractor and trailer. The big rig rolled onto the driver’s side and across both westbound lanes, according to state police, and an International semitrailer then struck the Freightliner. The crash pinned Hatchell in the cab for one-and-half hours before an emergency team could free him. He suffered non-life-threatening injuries, according to state police, and an ambulance took him to St. Anthony Hospital, Pendleton. The wreck also blocked the westbound lanes for more than two hours. 9:39 a.m. - A Pendleton man asked to speak to an offi cer about his soon-to-be ex-father-in-law harassing him. 10:12 a.m. - Umatilla police took a report about vandalism on a newly constructed house on John Day Street. 8:10 p.m. - Pendleton police responded King on accusations that they detained a man and woman for cooking drugs in a camper. Leoney and King were charged with assault because the detained man required medical attention. King was also found with a concealed handgun and although he had a permit for it, the event security require- ments stated that fi rearms were prohibited. Crook County Sheriff’s Sgt. Travis Jurgens says the couple had not been making drugs. ARRESTS, CITATIONS •Boardman police arrested Miguel Hernandez Lopez, no age or address provided, for driving under the infl uence of intoxicants and failure to carry and present. Police also cited him for no driver’s license. •Milton-Freewater police arrested Gerardo Perez Meza, 27, of Milton- Freewater, for fi rst-degree burglary and second-degree theft. •Pilot Rock police arrested Rodney Lewis Pfeifer, 27, of Pilot Rock, for domestic violence charges of fourth-degree assault and strangulation. •Pendleton police arrested Cody Roy Hatley, 28, of Pendleton, on a warrant for failure to appear and on new charges of possession of heroin, second-degree escape, interfering with a peace offi cer, resisting arrest, second-degree criminal mischief, and carrying concealed weapons. •Milton-Freewater police arrested Erasmo Garza, 58, no address provided, for trespassing, second-degree mischief and second-degree burglary. •Morrow County Sheriff’s Offi ce arrested Saul Nathaniel Erickson, 19, of Heppner, for fi rst-degree burglary, second-degree theft, third-degree theft, credit card fraud and fi rst-degree forgery. •Umatilla tribal police arrested Laurie Estrada Galindo, 40, of Pendleton, for possession and delivery of methamphet- amine, delivery of meth within 1,000 feet of a school, and manufacture of meth.
