Police: Eclipse event guards
arrested, wrongly detain couple
BEND (AP) — Authori-
ties say three security guards
were arrested for wrongfully
detaining two people at an
Oregon eclipse festival.
The Bend Bulletin reports
the three guards were
arrested Tuesday morning at
Big Summit Prairie and later
released with their charges
dropped, but the Crook
County District Attorney’s
Offi ce is reviewing the case.
Sheriff’s
deputies
arrested Washington state
residents Jared Leoney
and Ryan Schroeder and
Oregon resident Thomas
THURSDAY
4:11 a.m. - Rescuers freed a semi driver
from a crash near Pendleton.
Oregon State Police reported a
Freightliner semitrailer was westbound on
Interstate 84 near milepost 212 a couple
miles from Pendleton when the driver, Lavar
Hatchell, 40, of Los Angeles, swerved to
avoid a deer and lost control of the tractor
and trailer.
The big rig rolled onto the driver’s
side and across both westbound
lanes, according to state police, and an
International semitrailer then struck the
Freightliner. The crash pinned Hatchell in
the cab for one-and-half hours before an
emergency team could free him.
He suffered non-life-threatening injuries,
according to state police, and an ambulance
took him to St. Anthony Hospital, Pendleton.
The wreck also blocked the westbound
lanes for more than two hours.
9:39 a.m. - A Pendleton man asked to
speak to an offi cer about his soon-to-be
ex-father-in-law harassing him.
10:12 a.m. - Umatilla police took a report
about vandalism on a newly constructed
house on John Day Street.
8:10 p.m. - Pendleton police responded
King on accusations that
they detained a man and
woman for cooking drugs in
a camper.
Leoney
and
King
were charged with assault
because the detained man
required medical attention.
King was also found with
a concealed handgun and
although he had a permit for
it, the event security require-
ments stated that fi rearms
were prohibited.
Crook County Sheriff’s
Sgt. Travis Jurgens says the
couple had not been making
drugs.
