March 17, 1938 - July 14, 2017 8:25 a.m. - A Milton-Freewater resident on the 200 block of Northwest Sixth Avenue lost power to his house after a vehicle struck the line, knocking out the flow of electricity. 9:20 a.m. - A Walla Walla man reported the theft of his father’s vehicle from the 600 block of Lamb Street, Milton-Freewater. 9:49 a.m. - A resident on Yucca Avenue, Hermiston, complained about the neighbor’s sprinklers watering her house. 9:49 a.m. - A caller in the Hermiston area reported receiving harassing and threatening text messages. 10:02 a.m. - A man told Hermiston police he parked his vehicle last weekend in the back lot of Hale’s Restaurant, 174 E. Main St., Hermiston, and now it’s gone. He said he needed to report it as stolen. 10:59 a.m. - A resident on East Gladys Avenue, Hermiston, reported the theft of dogs. 12:05 p.m. - The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 15 Grant St., Umatilla, reported a break-in. 1:24 p.m. - A Umatilla woman told police someone in Georgia opened credit cards in her husband’s name. 2:35 p.m. - Someone in a black SUV with Washington plates stole three bags of crushed cans from Columbia Harvest Foods, 1411 Sixth St., Umatilla. 11:30 p.m. - Hermiston police received a report of possible elder abuse. SATURDAY 9 a.m. - The Umatilla County Sheriff’s Office responded to a report of a possible plane crash in the Columbia River near Hat Rock State Park. Only one caller reported the disappearance of a small yellow aircraft that dropped out of sight over the water, according to a written statement from the sheriff’s office. Police personnel, including the Umatilla County Sheriff’s Marine Patrol, searched the area for several hours, traveling on the river from McNary Dam to the Washington border. Local pilots also flew the river several times. The sheriff’s office reported no one spotted any aircraft debris or sign of wreckage. But if you have information about the incident, please call the sheriff’s office at 541-966-3600. 1:52 p.m. - Hermiston police responded to a residence on West Hermiston Avenue for a female “destroying stuff, screaming and yelling.” SUNDAY 4:28 a.m. - Loud party-goers on Southwest Seventh Place, Hermiston, prompted neighbors to complain to police about the noise. 1:39 p.m. - Someone slashed a vehicle’s tires on the 800 block of North East Elizabeth Street, Milton-Freewater. 6:15 p.m. - A member of the Ukiah Neighborhood Watch on North Mill Street reported the theft of a car. 9:34 p.m. - Hermiston police took a report about a male hitting a female. 10:19 p.m. - Brush caught fire at Southshore Drive and Highway 730, Umatilla. ARRESTS, CITATIONS Friday •Milton-Freewater police arrested Leman Louis Bledsoe, 75, of Milton-Freewater, for second-degree assault, menacing, reckless endangering, harassment and second-degree disorderly conduct. Saturday •Stanfield police arrested Wayd Steven Harley, 18, of Stanfield, for trespassing and first-degree theft. •Umatilla police arrested Marissa Elizabeth Gonzalez, 23, of Hermiston, on two warrants for failure to appear and for possession of methamphetamine. •Hermiston police arrested Jesus Salvador Solorio Vidales, 33, of Hermiston, for possession of methamphetamine, tampering with physical evidence and on a warrant for failure to appear. •Two local Hermiston offenders ended up in jail on charges of felony assault. Hermiston police reported officers responded to the Last Chance Tavern, 240 S.W. 11th St., after witnesses said Mitchell Wayne Thomas, 28, and Devontea Lamont Wright, 22, both of Hermiston, assaulted a 41-year-old transient, kicking and punching the man while he was on the pavement. “The victim suffered loose teeth and several scrapes,” according to the report. Police caught Thomas and Wright and booked them into the Umatilla County Jail, Pendleton, for third-degree assault, a class C felony in Oregon, and for second-degree disorderly conduct. Police also arrested Wright on a probation violation warrant. Thomas has multiple convictions. His most recent in Umatilla County Circuit Court was in August 2016 when he pleaded guilty to felon in possession of a firearm. Wright in 2011 took a deal in a sex crimes case and pleaded guilty to a pair of class C felonies and received a three-year prison sentence, minus the time he served in jail. •Morrow County Sheriff’s Office arrested Hiram Parker Paul Vickery, 55, no address provided, on domestic violence charges of strangulation and two counts of fourth-degree assault •Oregon State Police cited Chandra Green, 21, of Pendleton, for offensive littering for throwing a lit cigarette butt out of a vehicle window. Sunday •Oregon State Police arrested Rashelle Marie Zacarias, 23, of Burns, for driving under the influence of intoxicants. •Hermiston police arrested Juan Lucas Garcia Perez, 22, no address provided, for reckless driving, attempt to elude and DUII. •Citizens helped Hermiston police catch a man who tried to flee. Hermiston police saw Mayro Mike Guzman, 26, of Hermiston, driving in the area of Southwest Seventh Street and West Pine Avenue, and when an officer tried to make a stop near Southwest Ninth Street and West Orchard Avenue, the driver took off. Guzman made it about six blocks before abandoning his vehicle and fleeing on foot, according to the report. Citizens in the area helped police find Guzman in the bathrooms at Victory Square Park, where officers arrested him without further problems. Police booked Guzman into the Umatilla County Jail, Pendleton, on several warrants, driving while suspended, reckless driving and misdemeanor and felony eluding. (541- 443-8291) Jacqueline (Gibson) Irib- arren, a long-time resident of Pilot Rock, Oregon, and the Columbia Basin, passed away Tuesday, the 4th of July, surrounded by her family. Born in 1939 in Pend- leton, Oregon, Jackie was the oldest of five children and graduated from Pilot Rock High School in 1958. Jackie received her business degree in Portland, Oregon, and returned to Pilot Rock to work for the local lumber mill as a secretary until she married Iribarren Pascual Iribarren in 1962. She raised four children in the Mesa, Washington, area and helped to run a farming and ranching enterprise across the Columbia Basin for 20 years before returning to the Pilot Rock area. Jackie was an avid horse enthusiast and rider, spending much of her youth breaking horses, competing, riding in the Pendleton Round-Up and showing horses at livestock events. Jackie loved animals, raising them all of her life, and in her later years she bred and raised several unique horse and other livestock breeds on her farm near Pilot Rock. She is survived by her Former Milton-Freewater resident George A. Czarnik, 79, of Dallas, Ore., died Friday, July 14, 2017, in Albany. He was born March 17, 1938.
