She earned the prestigious Fulbright scholar award and left in September 1991 for a yearlong stay in Africa. In Ghana, Le Fore concentrates on “women in development,” particularly the transition from primitive to more modern farming methods. Her study includes social, psycholog- ical and economic impact, LeFore’s mother said. LeFore is the daughter of Jack Jr. and Carol LeFore, who own apple orchards in Milton-Freewater. A telephone message which he had was to the effect that the young man was turning water into an irrigation ditch and was ordered by his father to desist. Upon his continuance with the work, the elder man is said to have gone to his house, secured a shotgun and fired at his son from a distance of 75 yards. Several shot entered his back and penetrated his lungs, the report stated, and the wounded man is in a critical condition. He is being brought to Pendleton this afternoon.
