A deputy found the man was walking with his two dogs to Troutdale. 8:54 a.m. - The owner of a Hermiston business on East Main Street told police someone is dumping illegally into their dumpster. 12:37 p.m. - A concerned driver called 9-1-1 and asked the Umatilla County Sheriff’s Office to talk to the driver tailgating her at Umatilla River Road and Flink Lane, Hermiston. The tailgater, the caller said, was texting while driving, and perhaps a deputy could educate her on dangerous driving habits. 1:11 p.m. - Police and ambulance services in Morrow County responded to a high-speed rollover on westbound Interstate 84 near Boardman. A caller on the scene reported the driver got out of the vehicle. 1:11 p.m. - A caller asked Pendleton police to check the southwest end of the Pendleton River Parkway for two people who seemed suspicious. One wore a pair of overalls, and the other held a kitten that may have been injured. 1:40 p.m. - A caller reported finding fraudulent charges on her debit card at multiple Pendleton locations. 1:57 p.m. - Pendleton police responded to the Rudy Rada Skate Park on Northgate on a report of two homeless people harassing people. 4:41 p.m. - Someone, an Athena man reported, keeps coming onto his property on East Darwin Street and stealing gas from his lawn mower. He asked to speak to a Umatilla County sheriff’s deputy. 6:57 p.m. - A male wearing camouflage pants and thin shirt at Calan Road and East Highland Extension, Stanfield, drew a caller’s attention after spending most of the day next to a disabled vehicle while screaming and yelling at the sky. 8:16 p.m. - A Umatilla police officer at Chinook Avenue and Cedar Court was “out with a wild Chihuahua.” 8:27 p.m. - Two males and a female caused a domestic disturbance at Southeast Ninth Street and Byers Avenue, Pendleton. ARRESTS, CITATIONS Tuesday •Boardman police arrested Carmelo Garcia Celestino, 29, no address provided, for two counts of fourth-degree assault. A Celebration of Life service will be held on Friday, June 9, 2017, at 11:00 a.m. at Burns Mortuary of Pendleton chapel. A luncheon will follow imme- diately after the service at the Vert Clubroom. She was raised in Colorado in the Fruita and Loma areas, were she graduated from Loma High School. She married James E. Pace. After his death, she moved her family to Adams in 1963 and later she moved to Pendleton. She attended Blue Mountain Commu- nity College and graduated with an Pace associate’s degree. Jeannie managed the S & H Green Stamp Store and Conrad’s Mademoiselle Shop. She was the head cook at the Helen McCune Junior High and later the Sunridge Middle School. Family was everything to Jeannie; she was a mom and grandma to many more than her own. She enjoyed baking, canning, crocheting and sewing. Online condolences may be sent to www.pioneerchapel.com SCHOLARSHIPS National FFA Mike Hopper Memorial scholarship awarded to Echo student INDIANAPOLIS — The National FFA Organization recently awarded a $1,000 Mike Hopper Memorial scholar- ship to Laci Wiggins of Echo FFA. The scholarship is sponsored by Mike Hopper Memorial Fund. Wiggins plans to use the funds to pursue a degree at Blue Mountain Community College in Pendleton. This scholarship is one of 1,888 awarded through the National FFA Organization’s scholarship program this year. Currently 115 sponsors contribute more than $2.7 million to support Wiggins scholarships for students. The 2017 scholarship recipients were selected from 8,337 applicants from across the country. Selections were based on the applicant’s leadership, academic record, FFA and other school and community activities, supervised agricultural or work experience in agricultural education and future goals. PEO awards Alison Furnish scholarships PENDLETON — PEO Chapter CM recently awarded three scholarships to area women who are sophomore or higher college students. The scholarships are given each year in memory of former Chapter CM member Alison Furnish, a Pendleton native and former surgical nurse who dedicated her time and talents to Chapter CM after retirement. Paige Navratil, a 2015 Pendleton High School graduate, was awarded a $1,250 scholarship and will continue her studies at Eastern Oregon University in La Grande. Cori Briscoe, PHS class of 2012, was also awarded $1,250 and will be attending Oregon Health & Science University in La Grande this fall.
