RECORDS Tuesday, May 30, 2017 PUBLIC SAFETY LOG FRIDAY 10:54 a.m. - A resident of Northwest 11th Street, Pendleton, reported a theft. 11:13 a.m. - Pendleton police received a report of two white dogs chasing people at the Little League park near Southeast 19th Drive, but the dogs were gone when police arrived. 12:51 p.m. - The Morrow County Sheriff’s Office and an Irrigon ambulance transported a 14-year-old girl who was bleeding and suicidal from Irrigon to Good Shepherd Medical Center, Hermiston. 1:22 p.m. - A Heppner man told police his aunt was drunk and harassing him and his kids, and she may be driving to his house. 5:42 p.m. - Motorists complained of a driver in a light blue Lexus on Interstate 84 near Threemile Canyon going 95 mph, brake checking and texting. 7:04 p.m. - The bishop of a local church stopped by for a visit at a house on Wagon Wheel Loop, Irrigon, and found a strange car in the driveway, a loaded gun on the porch and nobody home. A teenage boy lives at the home with his grandma, and had allegedly abused her the previous day. 8:21 p.m. - Patrons at Zhen’s Jade Garden, 502 S.W. Emigrant Ave., Pendleton, reported what sounded like a single gunshot. Officers determined the sound to be fireworks. 9:01 p.m. - Pendleton police received a theft report from the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 609 N.W. 12th St. 11:12 p.m. - A Heppner man called the Morrow County Sheriff’s Office to tell them he had repossessed a tractor that belonged to him and sold it. He wanted the sheriff’s office to know in case there was a theft report filed. 11:40 p.m. - Two men fighting at The Saddle Restaurant, 2230 S.E. Court Ave., Pendleton, were given a warning by Pendleton police. SATURDAY 12:45 a.m. - Pendleton police received a report of the theft of firearms from a home on Northwest 12th Street. 1:03 a.m. - A Morrow County Sheriff’s deputy found a meth pipe in his vehicle while taking a woman to the Umatilla County Jail. 8:06 a.m. - A woman said someone drove a red Kia 4-door at a high rate of speed then abandoned it on her property on Highway 730, Irrigon. 4:39 p.m. - Pendleton police responded to another fight, this one involving four men on Northwest Carden Avenue. The men were given a warning. 6:18 p.m. - A resident of Parkview Apartments, 401 N.W. Bailey Ave., Pendleton, reported a theft. 10:05 p.m. - Pendleton police were called to the vicinity of South Main Street and Southeast Goodwin Avenue for a man laying in the middle of the street. SUNDAY 12:10 a.m. - Two people fighting at Circle K Food Mart, 335 S.E. Court Ave., Pendleton, were contacted by police, and at least one was jailed. 4:18 p.m. - An employee of Travelodge, 411 S.W. Dorion Ave., Pendleton, reported her purse was stolen from the motel. 11:00 p.m. - Pendleton police investigating a report of gunshots fired instead found a man punching a metal sign, and arrested him. ARRESTS Friday, May 26 • Leobardo Jacquez, 33, was arrested by the Morrow County Sheriff’s Office on a warrant for probation violation on a fourth-degree assault/strangulation charge and failure to perform duties of a driver that led to property damage. He was booked in the Umatilla County Jail, Pendleton. Sunday, May 28 • Jose Hector Betancourt Villegas, 50, of Milton-Freewater was arrested for DUII and reckless driving at 9:55 p.m. • Pendleton police arrested Stanley M. Helzer Patricia Ann Emmons Koch Hermiston September 15, 1949-May 25, 2017 Milton-Freewater July 26, 1941-May 18, 2017 David A. Helzer was born on September 15, 1949, in Nampa, Idaho, to parents Broyce and Nola Kinley Helzer. He died on May 25, 2017, at his home in Herm- iston, Oregon, at the age of 67 years surrounded by loved ones. He graduated high school in Caldwell, Idaho, in the class of 1968. He moved to Hermiston, Ore., in 1976. He later moved to Pullman, Wash., for several Helzer years and returned to Hermiston in 2010 where he has lived since. David was united in marriage to Sharon Seger on November 24, 1998, in Winnemucca, Nev. He was an owner operator of his own truck for many years. David then worked as a truck driver for WalMart from September of 1999 until he retired in August of 2016. He enjoyed spending time with his family and friends, fishing, flying, and relaxing after his retirement. Mathersa Louisa Davenport Michel Pendleton December 7, 1933-May 19, 2017 Mathersa Louisa Daven- port Michel went to sleep in Jesus on Friday evening, May 19, 2017. Born December 7, 1933, to Leon and Charolette Davenport in Tina, Missouri, Mathersa grew up the second of six children. Leon would later marry Ellen Davenport, and they would adopt two more children. At the age of 17, Mathersa left high school to marry James Michel in New Plymouth, Michel Idaho. Together they raised four sons, Gary, Lonnie, Larry and Kevin. In 1970, Mathersa and her family moved to Pendleton, Oregon, where she worked in the payroll department at Harris Pine Mills until its closure. She then started a day care program that she ran out of her home. She continued caring for children until she was forced to retire after suffering a stroke in 2002. Mathersa faced numerous health challenges after suffering a second stroke in July of 2002. Despite the many complications that came as a result of the strokes, Mathersa kept a positive attitude. She loved spending time with her children and grandchildren. She collected novelty bells and spoons from around the country. She also enjoyed collecting pictures of nature. She loved Jesus with all of her heart and made her family promise to meet her in Heaven someday. Mathersa was preceded in death by her parents, her older brother Leon, and two of her younger sisters, Katie and Maxine. She is survived by her husband of 65 years, Jim, and her sons Gary and his wife Theresa, Lonnie and his wife Christel, Larry and his wife Donna, and her youngest son Kevin and his partner Tracy Bosen. She will be missed by her brothers Bob and Rick Davenport, her sisters Joyce Rich and Leanne McClure, her ten grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren, along with extended family. Patricia Ann Emmons Koch of Milton-Freewater passed away on May 18, 2017, at Providence St. Mary Medical Center in Walla Walla at the age of 75 years. Patricia Ann Emmons Koch was born on July 26, 1941, in Joseph, Ore., to Ed and Lila Emmons. Pat grew up in Joseph, active in 4-H, enjoying many hours horse- back riding in the hills around her Koch home in Prairie Creek. During her senior year, an accomplished rider, she was chosen prin- cess in the Chief Joseph Days court. Pat graduated from Joseph High School in 1960. She went on to earn her associate’s degree at Eastern Oregon State College in La Grande, Ore., majoring in business. Eventually, Pat settled in Milton-Freewater where she met and married Jack Koch, August 30, 1975. They purchased the Oasis Supper Club on Stateline Road in 1989 and for the next 17 years enlarged the restaurant to seat 250. During those years she was active in the Blue Mountain Riders.
