Adult Classes drop ins workshops HIP & HANDMADE – a FREE drop-in class! BUILD A UKULELE PEG WILLIS, INSTRUCTOR Join one of our creative and enthusiastic staff members for this casual, no pressure get-together. We gather around a big table in our craft gallery to work on a different project each week, depending on what has captured our interest. No need to sign up, no tuition, just come on by! Starting from the raw pieces, Peg will lead the group through assembly, finishing, installing fretboard, bridge and tuners, and, finally, stringing your new ukulele. No woodworking or music experience is necessary; we’ll teach the necessary woodworking skills, and you can join the PCA’s ukulele playing class to get started with the music! EVERY SATURDAY, 11:00AM – NOON SPIN IN – a FREE drop-in offering Join the fiber fun gang on the first Saturday of every month at the Pendleton Center for the Arts. Those who spin, knit, crochet or do any creative hand work are welcome. If you just want to learn more about these fiber arts, come on by! We love to do demonstrations, answer questions, or help you with the “darned” knitting problem (pun intended). 1:00 – 4:00PM on the First Saturday of the Month July 1 and August 5 TUES – FRI, JUNE 20-23 (4 SESSIONS) 9:00 – 11:00AM EACH DAY $60 MEMBERS/ $65 NON-MEMBERS + $35 MATERIALS FEE PLAY THE UKULELE MIKE KELLISON, INSTRUCTOR This playful instrument makes a great introduction to music, or a fun practice session for those who already play. We’ll work on chords, strumming and reading tabs and music while practicing classic uke songs as a group. No prior experience in music is required, and we have ukuleles available for students to borrow. THURSDAYS, 5:30 – 6:30PM, JUNE 29 – JULY 27 (5 SESSIONS) $55 MEMBERS / $60 NON-MEMBERS DJEMBE RHYTHM WORKSHOP MIKE KELLISON, INSTRUCTOR Learn the tones and techniques of the Djembe, an African goblet-shaped drum that you play with your hands. We’ll do exercises in basic rhythms, practice reading rhythm grid notation (a simple way to write down beats), and move up to African drumming arrangements. No music experience is necessary- this class is about discovering the fun of playing rhythm together! Students will be challenged to their individual skill level, and teens 13-18 years old are welcome to join for free! THURSDAYS, 6:45 – 8:00PM JUNE 29 – JULY 27 (5 SESSIONS) $55 MEMBERS / $60 NON-MEMBERS POTTERY MARIE PRATUCH, INSTRUCTOR Use the pottery wheel to make functional ceramic forms. Marie will share info about process, materials, and tools, and students will get plenty of wheel-time to practice. Most materials supplied in class, including clay, firing, some glazes and ample open studio time. Students may choose to purchase additional glazes, but must talk to PCA staff to make sure they work with our kiln. Marie will cover this info in class!
