He finished his life on earth April 22, 2017, after a relatively short diagnosis of Alzhei- mer’s. After the death of his mother at age 4, Richard and his family moved to Emmett, Idaho, where he met and eventually married the love of his life, Norma “Lee” Emond. They Crosby married February 4, 1951, and moved to Pend- leton, Ore. In August 1951 Richard went to work for the Pend- leton Woolen Mills where he remained a dedicated employee until he retired 43 years later. Richard took early retirement to fulfill a lifelong dream of being a full-time minister as one of Jehovah’s Witnesses. That was his chosen “career” until he was forced to stop due to his declining mental status. Richard and Lee had five children, all of whom consider themselves fortu- nate to have had him as their father. Richard is survived by his wife, Lee, and children Penny (Glen Risinger) and their children Trina, Trent and Tasha; Thomas (Karlene Elmendorf Crosby, Andrea Webb (Bryant Webb) and their children Brandon, Bryce, Gwen, Logan and Piper; Dale and his children Keri and Kendra; and Jonathan (Lesley Baker Crosby) and their children Kyle and Brenden. He is also survived by 20 great-grand- children and three great-great-grand- children. Richard is also survived by two brothers, Dale Crosby of Boise, Idaho, and Raymond Howey of Salina, Kan., along with many nieces and nephews. Richard was preceded in death by his parents, and siblings Dorothy, Margie, Bill, Jack, Maudie and Wayne, as well as his great- grandson Odie and nieces Beth and Mary Jane Johnson. Richard was blessed with a vivid imagination and sense of humor, his jokes and puns being one of the things people remember most about him. He will be greatly missed. The family would like to thank the staff of Juniper House for their kind, thoughtful care of Richard the last few months of his life. (Jim) Morris, 85, of Arlington, Oregon, died Thursday, April 27, 2017, at his home. A funeral service will be held Tuesday, May 2, 2017, at 11 a.m. at the Arlington United Methodist Church. Concluding service with military honors will follow at Arlington Ceme- tery. Jim was born February 27, 1932, to George W. and Gladys E. Morris. He grew up on the family farm in the Yakima Valley. He attended Granger, Morris Wa s h i n g t o n schools, graduating in 1950 as an honor student and class salutatorian. He enlisted in the Washington National Guard, and was activated later that summer. On April 10, 1953, he married Evelyn M. Masoner. In 1955 they moved to the ranch on the lower John Day River. Jim’s parents also moved to the ranch and were joined by Jim’s sister, Ellen. On June 12, 1957, Jim and Evelyn had a daughter, Karen. Three years later on June 11, 1960, their second daughter, Tamara, was born. Jim’s wife, Evelyn, passed away on September 8, 1987. On October 8, 1988, Jim married Frances West Re. Jim was active in several different organizations, as well as the Arlington United Methodist Church. Jim is survived by his wife, Francie; daughters Karen and Tamara; stepchildren Mark Re (April), Dean Re (Susie) and Rona Meads (Marty); grandchil- dren Dominic and Anette Desimini, Nicole Desimini, Paul Fowler, Luke and Rachel Fowler, Katie Re, David Re, Jessica Re, Tanner Meads and Colter Meads; three great-grandchildren, Talia and Annemiek Desimini and Dylan Scott; sister Ellen Ellis; nephews Nick and Don Ellis, and niece Becky Morgan. Velda Faye Cook Pendleton July 15, 1935-April 26, 2017 Velda Faye Cook, 81, died April 26, 2017, in Pendleton. Visitation will be held on Saturday, April 29, 2017, from 2 to 6 p.m. at Pendleton Pioneer Chapel, Folsom-Bishop. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. on Monday, May 1 at the funeral home with interment to follow at Pilot Rock Cemetery. Velda was born July 15, 1935, in Neosho, Missouri, to James and Cook Ora (Crumbliss) Robertson. At age 14, she moved with her family to Pilot Rock where she lived until 1968, at which time Velda and Wiley moved to a farm up the Umatilla River. She graduated from Pilot Rock High School in 1953. On June 28, 1958, she married Wiley Cook in Pendleton. She worked for Smith Cannery until 1959 and in 1990, she retired from Pacific Northwest Bell where she worked for 29 years in several different capacities: as an operator, repair dispatch and a construction clerk. She liked to garden but raising roses was her favorite. She also liked shopping, sewing, camping and cooking. Her favorite pastime was spoiling her grandchildren and spending time with her family. Survivors include her husband, Wiley Cook of Pendleton; son Donnie Cook of Pendleton; sisters Kathy Furniss of Pendleton, Peggy Timms of Hermiston and Betty Chester of Seneca, Mo.; grandchil- dren Megan Peterson of Klamath Falls and Rachelle Knight of North Plains, Ore.; great-grandchildren Laynie Knight and Chan- dler Knight; nephews Tanner Furniss and David Robertson; and nieces Heidi Timms, Kimberly Timms and Angela Robertson. She was preceded in death by her brother, James Robertson, son Randy Cook, and grandson Ryan Cook. (Monte) McDonald Milton-Freewater March 7, 1933-March 29, 2017 Elsie M. McDonald, 83, of Milton-Freewater passed away January 19, 2017, at Walla Walla General Hospital. A double celebra- tion of life will be held for Elsie and Monte on Saturday, May 6 at 2:00 p.m. at the Weston Memorial Hall. Elsie was born September 10, 1933, to Eldon L. and Sylvia (Minks) Yeager in Sheridan, Wyoming, the oldest of three girls. At 14, the family moved to Nampa, Idaho. She met Dale L. (Monte) McDonald at 16 and a year later on December 16, 1950, they eloped to Winnemucca, Nevada. She worked as a nurse’s aid in Nampa, Idaho, Moses Lake, Washington and Ontario, Oregon. They moved to Pendleton, Oregon, where she joined the Lioness Club and in 1976 Elsie went back to school and became an LPN. She worked at St. Anthony Hospital until they moved back to Nampa, Idaho, to be closer to their parents. She went to work at the Idaho State School & Hospital where she retired in 2002. They then moved to Milton-Freewater, Oregon, where they joined the Milton-Freewater Lions Club and delivered Meals on Wheels. Dale L. (Monte) McDonald, 84, of Milton-Freewater passed away peacefully March 29, 2017, at his daughter’s home in Weston, Oregon. Monte, as he preferred to be called, was born in Sunny- side, Washington, to Elsie R. McDonald and when she married Lee H. Duncan, they moved to the family dairy farm in Star, Idaho. After Monte and Elsie were married he worked on the railroad and was a police officer in Nampa, Idaho. When they moved to Wash- ington he was a milkman in Kennewick and Moses Lake, then went to work for Sears in 1968 and was “Salesman of the Year” numerous times. He stayed with Sears through their moves to Ontario and then to Pendleton, where he joined the Round-Up Lions Club. He went to work for Simpson’s Building Supply when they moved back to Idaho and when the company closed he started his own mowing business until moving to Milton-Freewater. He became a “VIP” for the police department and was voted “VIP of the Year.” Monte and Elsie were very active in their church and the Milton-Freewater and the Weston-McEwen Lions Clubs. They will always be Lions at heart. They are survived by their son, Curtis D. McDonald, Spokane, Washington; daughters Debra (Debi) K. and son-in- law Tony Castor, Adams, Oregon, and Sharon (Cheri) L. and son-in- law Tim Jackson, Weston, Oregon; six grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren and one great-great-granddaughter. The children extend a special thank you to the doctors and nurses at Walla Walla General Hospital’s ER department and the Walla Walla Community Hospice for their compassion and care of our parents. April 3, 2017 Anita (Ehms) Clausen, 94, wonderful mother and beloved grandmother, was born in Chicago, Illinois, and passed there on April 3, 2017. She spent the years in between living in Greenville, Mississippi and Pendleton, Oregon. Throughout he life, she taught china painting and exhib- ited her excellent sense of humor. She was Clausen preceded in death by her husband of 58 years, Forrest Clausen, and her daughter, Dr. Sallyann Clausen. She is survived by her daughter, Karen Clausen, and grandsons Leif and Ian Adams. There will be an ash-spreading cere- mony in Oregon at a date to be deter- mined. BRIEFLY Ugly Dolls provide creative outlet PENDLETON — Teens are invited to get creative in making a stuffed animal, voodoo doll or other fabric creation during an upcoming class at Pendleton Center for the Arts. The sessions start Wednesday, May 3 from 3:30-5 p.m. and continues weekly through May 24. The arts center is located at 214 N. Main St., Pendleton. As part of the ART Rocks Teens, the Ugly Dolls class is free of charge. Students will design, sew and stuff their own creation, using the art center’s collection of fabrics and embellishments to put together original, quirky dolls.
