March 31, 2017 EO-8820 LEGAL NOTICE FOR SCOPING AND COMMENT Heppner Bull Prairie Hazardous Fuel Reduction Project The Forest Service is preparing a categorical exclusion (CE) for the proposed Heppner Bull Prairie Hazardous Fuels Reduction Project (Bull Prairie) and we are asking you to provide comments. The Bull Prairie project was developed to reduce fuels loading and improve forest health through vegetation management. Primary activity would be prescribed underburning treating up to 4300 acres. Pre-commercial thinning will be used intermittently throughout the whole project, 70 acres, divided into several units, will receive commercial harvest treatment. The project area surrounds the Bull Prairie Lake and associated campground facilities. Northern boundary of the treatment acreage borders the Morrow County OHV Park and private landholdings. The area was selected in order to help protect high public use areas that had not been treated under the adjacent Rim Rock environmental analysis.
