DAYS GONE BY BEETLE BAILEY GARFIELD BLONDIE DILBERT THE WIZARD OF ID LUANN ZITS BY MORT WALKER BY JIM DAVIS 100 Years Ago From the East Oregonian Feb. 9, 1917 Notice to District Attorney R.I. Keaton to keep a sharp watch for any treasonable utter- ances or acts during the crisis with Germany and the presence in the city this morning of United States Marshal John Montag indicates that Uncle Sam is taking every precaution to guard against trouble from disloyal subjects. The presence of the United States marshal here this morning gave rise to many rumors as to his mission. The most persistent was that he had come to investigate personally the alleged treasonable remarks made by a local German merchant a few days ago. Whether or not this is a fact cannot at this time be ascertained. He is reported to have left on No. 17. 50 Years Ago From the East Oregonian Feb. 9, 1967 Condon’s most famous shot, A-1C Kenneth Jones, 25, who won the world trapshooting championship in Weisbaen, Germany last THIS DAY IN HISTORY BY DEAN YOUNG AND STAN DRAKE BY SCOTT ADAMS BY BRANT PARKER AND JOHNNY HART BY GREG EVANS BY JERRY SCOTT AND JIM BORGMAN June, is expected home in the near future. Jones expects to receive his discharge from the U.S. Air Force Feb. 27 and plans to come home, probably about the middle of March. He is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Lawrence Jones of Condon, and he plans to bring his family with him — his wife Katheryn, and their daughter Alice Kay, a year and a half old. 25 Years Ago From the East Oregonian Feb. 9, 1992 A tractor-trailer lost its brakes and rolled over an embankment at about 12:45 p.m. Sunday at the K-Mart parking lot along Highway 395 in Pendleton. No one was injured in the accident and Schilling Towing was called to pull the rig off the embankment that was covered by trees and shrubs. A K-Mart employee notified the Pendleton police that the vehicle was not parked securely and already was “hanging over the embank- ment.” Police received another report at 1:16 p.m. that the vehicle had gone over the edge. Attempts to contact the registered owners, who live in Ontario, were unsuccessful. Today is the 40th day of 2017. There are 325 days left in the year.
