On offense: The Pirates are looking to get as many hard-hit balls coming back across the net as possible, so Cain wants her players to feel comfortable hitting from anywhere on the court. She describes her offense as “simple but dynamic.” On defense: The Pirates run a gold medal squared defense that puts responsibility on blockers to read where the hitters are going and get into position quickly. This scheme demands great anticipation and court vision.
