RECORDS Tuesday, July 19, 2016 East Oregonian PUBLIC SAFETY LOG OBITUARIES DEATH NOTICES FRIDAY Craig Edward Gorham Jerry Cooper Hermiston Stanield July 17, 2016 1:39 p.m. - A white full-size van with eight occupants got stuck on the railroad tracks at South Kennedy Street and Ramos Lane, Echo. Union Paciic Rail Road reported they had stopped the train until the vehicle was cleared from the tracks. 4:38 a.m. - A resident of Vista Trailer Park, 1800 N.E. 10th St., Hermiston, reported his car stolen. The caller said the vehicle was unlocked with the keys in it, and it had a half tank of gas. The Umatilla County Sheriff’s Ofice took a theft report. 6:37 a.m. - A resident of Southwest Second Street, Pendleton, reported his car was broken into while parked at South Hill Apartments, 248 S.W. 28th Drive. A longboard and other items were taken and the car was ransacked. He requested contact from a Pendleton police oficer at his home. 12:29 p.m.- An employee of McKay Creek Estates, 2601 Southgate Place, Pendleton, reported spotting a goat between the assisted living facility and the taxi building. Pendleton police were unable to locate the goat. 4:50 p.m. - A woman called Pendleton police to report she found a set of jumper cables in a black case inside her home on Northwest 10th Street, and they do not belong to her. 4:51 p.m. - The Heppner Ambulance was called to the Morrow-Grant County OHV Park, Highway 207 south of Heppner, for a woman who had an ATV accident on one of the trails and dislocated her hip. She was transported to Pioneer Memorial Hospital, Heppner. 6:53 p.m. - A resident of Mill Creek Road near Walla Walla (on the Oregon side of the border) complained to the Umatilla County Sheriff’s Ofice that the neighbors were shooting guns, and that the neighbors on the other side of him got mad and were shooting their own guns. The two parties were also swearing at each other, and the caller was worried the incident was going to escalate. 8:12 p.m. - A Umatilla police oficer was called to Crossroads Truck Stop, 2020 Highway 730, Umatilla, by an employee of the restaurant who said a woman eating with her family was biting and pinching the children. The caller also said she believed the parents were under the inluence of something. 10:16 p.m. - Someone was shining a green laser at passing vehicles from the upper window of an apartment on Southwest Nye Avenue, Pendleton. 11:15 p.m. - A resident of Southwest 19th Street, Pendleton, did some quick thinking to keep a woman calm until a crisis team could be dispatched to his house. The caller said the woman showed up at his door and seemed to be “out of it” and very nervous. While talking to dispatch on his phone he reassured the woman that he was asking his brother to come over and bring some beer, and that “his brother could just come in without knocking.” SATURDAY 3:02 a.m. - The Pendleton Fire Department called Pendleton police when a couple of kids showed up at the ire station on Southwest Court Avenue and one of them had one wrist locked in handcuffs with no key. 9:03 a.m. - An employee of Mikami Brothers Potatoes, 2601 S. First St., Hermiston, reported the theft of tires from the business the previous night. The caller had video of the suspect’s vehicle and asked for contact from a Umatilla County sheriff’s deputy. 9:34 a.m. - The Umatilla County Sheriff’s Ofice received a report of a cougar behind a barn at a residence on Shaw Road, Pilot Rock. 10:11 a.m. - A bright red golf cart with yellow lames was stolen from the alley behind a house on Northwest 10th Street, Pendleton. The caller said the golf cart didn’t run and requested contact from a Pendleton police oficer. 8:02 p.m. - A boy was almost hit by a car while he was mowing the yard at his home on North Dunne Street, the boy’s mother reported to Stanield police. The car left the area and headed toward Pilot Travel Center, 2115 S. Highway 395. 10:57 p.m. - Pendleton police and ire departments were called to a dumpster ire at Southwest 10th Street and Frazer Avenue. The ire was reportedly started by ireworks. SUNDAY 2:08 a.m. - The Morrow County Sheriff’s Ofice received a call from a resident of Mountain View Drive, Boardman, reporting his girlfriend had broken his hand. The caller said he would drive himself to the hospital. 2:17 a.m. - A resident of Northwest Ninth Street, Pendleton, reported an intoxicated man was lying on the sidewalk after trying to break into his home. Pendleton police were unable to ind the man. 3:22 a.m. - Pendleton police received a report of a domestic assault at Hailey Place Apartments, 696 S.W. 30th St. 6:42 a.m. - A resident of Homestead Apartments, 516 N.W. Bailey Ave., Pendleton, was awakened by his dog barking and found a naked man in his apartment. The caller said he had the intruder’s wallet and requested a Pendleton police oficer contact him. 7:09 a.m. - A vehicle was reported stolen from a resident on North Washington Street, Weston. 11:06 p.m. - A resident of Pond Drive, Heppner, called the Morrow County Sheriff’s Ofice to complain about the smell from a dead deer on the neighbor’s property. 2:05 p.m. - Residents of River Ridge Drive, Boardman, complained to the Morrow County Sheriff’s Ofice about a young man going door to door in the neighborhood asking for odd jobs. A Boardman police oficer talked to the man and was told he was trying to gather funds to help pay for his grandmother’s funeral, which was in a couple of days. 5:31 p.m. - A woman carrying a rope was reported trespassing in the backyard of a residence on Southeast Alexander Place, Pendleton, by a neighbor. 6:27 p.m. - A dump truck blew a tire on Interstate 84 east- bound near Boardman. Debris in the road caused another car to wreck. Boardman ire and ambulance crews, Oregon State Police and the Morrow County Sheriff’s Ofice responded to the scene. ARRESTS, CITATIONS Friday •Oregon State Police arrested Joshua John Magdos, 25, Phoenix, Ariz., for duii (marijuana). •Oregon State Police arrested Roberto Navarro, 21, of Boardman, for duii, driving while suspended and failure to install ignition interlock device. Saturday •Oregon State Police arrested Cekais Toni Ganuelas, 25, Pendleton, on charges of driving under the inluence of intoxi- cants, driving while suspended, open container, speeding and refusal of intoxicant test. Sunday •Milton-Freewater police arrested August Lynn Simon, 24, 137 S.E. Eighth Ave., Milton-Freewater, for driving under the inluence of intoxicants. •Pendleton police arrested Dwayne Hartjen, 43, address not provided, for second-degree assault, a felony. •Pendleton police arrested Ernest Lynn Roberts, 43, address not provided, for possession of methamphetamine, second-de- gree disorderly conduct and interfering with a peace oficer. •Pendleton police arrested Jordan Ray Brown, 27, address not provided, for felony fourth degree assault and menacing. October 12, 1951-July 16, 2016 Craig Edward Gorham of Hermiston, formerly of Pend- leton, passed away Saturday, July 16th, 2016, at the age of 64. A memorial service will be held at 10 a.m. Monday, July 18th at McKenzie Park in Hermiston, Oregon, with burial to follow at 2:00 p.m. at the Cove Cemetery, Cove, Oregon. Craig was born October 12th, 1951, to Paul Edward Gorham and Lois Aloha Gorham in Cove, Oregon. Gorham Craig graduated from Pendleton High School in 1970 and is a Pendleton Football Hall of Fame member. After high school he earned his master’s degree in education from Eastern Oregon State College in 1975. While in college he was captain of his wrestling team and earned Outstanding Wrestler of the Year in 1972. Mr. Gorham was a favored teacher and taught science in both Stanield and Hermiston for 13 years, coached high school football and wrestling, Little League softball, and hunter’s safety before retiring in 1990. Craig was an avid hunter and outdoorsman and broke the state record with the second-largest elk in Oregon. He was also former president of the Northeast Bow Hunters Association. Craig is a third degree member of Masonic Lodge #138 of Hermiston, a lifetime member of Masonic Lodge #91 of Cove and member of Herm- iston Desert Shrine Club. On August 4th, 2001, he married Karen Elizabeth Altizer at McKenzie Park in Hermiston, Oregon. Survivors include his wife Karen Gorham; twin brother Greg Ernest Gorham; sister Paula Aloha Gorham; daughters Jennifer Aloha Gorham, Melinda Leigh Gorham-Rodrigues and Karen Cross Freel; son Raymond C. Freel; nephew Corey Gorham; 10 grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren. Preceded in death by father Paul Gorham, mother Aloha Gorham, and niece Stacy Gorham. Craig was a teacher at school, home and in life. He always shared his knowledge, big heart and humor. He touched a lot of lives and will be truly missed.
