RECORDS Wednesday, June 22, 2016 PUBLIC SAFETY LOG MONDAY 9:11 a.m. - A Pendleton woman reported her father and brothers threatened her because they think she pawned items they owned. 9:56 a.m. - An Irrigon woman on Southwest Utah Avenue reported six kittens were under her hot tub on the back porch. 10:16 a.m. - Pendleton police received a second-hand report that a father moved in with his adult son, and the son left and locked the father inside. The caller asked police to check on the father because she believed this was abusive. 10:56 a.m. - A Pendleton mother reported her son ran away from home. 11:20 a.m. - The previous manager of Wild Rose RV Park, 1500 S.E. Byers Ave., Pendleton, withheld mail from renters, a caller reported, and the current managers asked police for advice on what to do with the mail now. The caller, though, was not able to provide the name of the previous manager. 12:01 p.m. - A caller reported a driver of a black Nissan two-door with Washington plates was on North First Street, Irrigon, and smoking a glass pipe in the car, the kind of pipe people use to smoke methamphetamine. 12:04 p.m. - A resident on Southeast 17th Street, Pendleton, reported a break-in and theft of her 65-inch TV. 2:57 p.m. - Another Pendleton mother reported her son as a runaway. 3:21 p.m. - An Ione woman reported a rattlesnake was trying to come onto her porch, and when she tried to use a ire extinguisher to run it off, the snake only became angry. 3:39 p.m. - A man told Pendleton police his ex-wife notiied him she is moving to Indiana with their children next month, yet he has “paperwork” stating she can’t do that. He asked for an oficer to review the document. 3:59 p.m. - The manager of America’s Best Value Inn, 201 S.W. Court Ave., Pendleton, reported the business refused to let a male use the bathroom. The male then cussed at the caller, went outside and urinated in the front entrance of the building. He then left in a Honda Civic. Police did not ind the suspect. 5:07 p.m. - An Athena man discovered someone entered his car on North Third Street and tore out and cut all the wires under the dash. 7:03 p.m. - Three juveniles walked up to the home of a Pendleton woman on Northwest Fourth Street and asked her for a cigarette, and one of them jumped across her retaining wall and boasted he could “jump across her car.” And another said he was intoxicated. The trio turned on Northwest Ellis Avenue toward Main Street. 7:53 p.m. - A Hermiston husband on Hat Rock Road reported the neighbor who threatened his wife tried to give her a letter regarding his personal business but she did not want it and feels like he is watching her all the time. 9:23 p.m. - Two men, both 40-50, were with a younger American Indian woman who was intoxicated on the Pendleton River Parkway near Southeast Eighth Street Bridge and Byers Avenue, when a passerby asked her if she was OK. The men told the passerby to mind her own business. She called police, though, but said the incident was 15 minute earlier. Police were not able to ind the two men or female. East Oregonian OBITUARIES Bette Lou Grogan Pendleton June 24, 1940-January 5, 2016 April 11, 1920-June 16, 2016 Bette Lou Grogan, age 75, passed away in Hermiston, surrounded by her family on Tuesday, January 5, 2016. She was born on June 24, 1940 in Great Falls, Montana to Melvin H. Bacon and Martha G. Adams. Bette lived most of her childhood in Colfax, Wash- ington, where she attended grade school. She attended Pendleton High School, where she enjoyed volleyball Grogan and other school activities. She spent her senior year at Ukiah High School, where she was active in student government and was an all sports cheerleader. Bette was married twice and had three beloved chil- dren, Tamara, Jeffrey and Dustin. She lived in Stanield Oregon for over 50 years, where she loved raising her kids and supporting the small community. Bette worked for the City of Stanield, Termicold and inished her work career with the Umatilla Army Depot as the Commanders Secre- tary. She worked with many commanders and retired with over 20 years of service. Bette was an avid reader and loved solving crossword puzzles. She also loved painting, shooting pool, bowling and working on the family’s mountain cabin. Bette really enjoyed watching her grandchildren play sports and usually didn’t miss a game. Bette was a compassionate animal lover and could never turn away a stray cat, she loved them all and they adored her in return. Bette is survived by her longtime partner Edmund Jonas; her sons, Dusty and Jeff; daughter-in- laws, Stephenie and Laurie; grandchildren, Samuel, Quinton, Dylan, Adam and Alyson; brothers, Dusty and Ray King and many nieces and nephews. Bette was preceded in death by her parents; sisters, Donna, Dianne and Nona; brother, Joe; and her beloved daughter, Tamara. A graveside celebration of life service will be held on Saturday, June 25, 2016, at 1 p.m. at Pleasant View Cemetery, Stanield, Oregon. Stanger U.S. Air Force Airman 1st Class Marissa M. Stanger graduated from basic military training at Joint Base San Antonio-Lackland, San Antonio, Texas. The airman completed an intensive, eight-week program that included training in military discipline and studies, Air Force core values, physical itness, and basic warfare principles and skills. Airmen who complete basic training also earn four credits toward an associate in applied science degree through the Community College of the Air Force. Stanger Stanger is the daughter of Carma L. Berry of Irrigon and Roger W. Stanger of West Haven, Utah, and step-daughter of Ronald R. Berry of Irrigon. She graduated from Irrigon Junior Senior High School in 2013. (Grant) Jones, a former Pendleton resident, passed away on Sunday, June 19, 2016, at her home in Richland, Wash- ington. She was 95 years old. Viewing will be held Friday, June 24 between 9 a.m. and 1 p.m. at Burns Mortuary of Pend- leton. Graveside funeral services will be held at 3 p.m., Friday, June 24 at Olney Cemetery in Pendleton. A Jones luncheon will follow at the Pend- leton Shari’s Restaurant. She was born at St. Anthony Hospital in Pend- leton on March 3, 1921, to Clarence M. and Mary (Dyer) Depew. She had six siblings. Catherine started school at age 5 at St. Joseph’s Academy in Pendleton and completed the seventh grade there before transferring to Pendleton High School. She completed eighth grade through graduation at P.H.S., graduating with the class of 1938. On December 3, 1938, she married George C. Grant. The couple had three sons; George Gerald Grant, James D. Grant and Daniel Joseph Grant. George C. passed away in April of 1953. In August of 1957, she married Clifford H. Jones. They had a son, Steven J. Jones, born August 1959. She was co-owner of several different businesses, the last being “The Glass Shop” in Pendleton. Catherine is survived by her children: George Grant & wife Jeanne of Albany, GA; James Grant of Baker City, OR; Daniel Grant & wife Diana of Heppner, OR; and Steven Jones & wife Indy of Eagle River, AK; her sister, Mary Ramey of Heppner, OR; six grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, Clarence & Mary Depew, her irst husband, George Grant, her second husband, Clifford Jones, and ive siblings. Ruth R. Hughes, 96, of Pendleton died June 16, 2016, at St. Anthony Hospital. Burial will take place in Canton, Miss. next to her husband. Mrs. Hughes was born April 11, 1920, in Leake County, Miss. to Emmett and Lucy (Dendy) Reese. She attended school in Missis- sippi. She later married Willard Hughes Hughes. At the time of his death, they had been married for 62 years. She then moved to Oregon to be near her sister and broth- er-in-law. Survivors include her sister and b r o t h e r- i n - l a w, Nina Marie and Bill Arkell; two nephews, Emmett Courtright and LeRoy Courtright. She was preceded in death by her parents; brother, Wayne; and sister, Opal Farrell.
