She was 69 years old. A Celebration of Life will be held Saturday, May 21, 2016, at 2:00 p.m. at the Pend- leton Convention Center. Sign the online condolence book at www. burnsmortuary.com. Burns Mortuary of Pendleton handled arrangements. Judie was born May 2, 1946, to Paul Thomas Haynes “Pete” and Frances Gene Wright in Lincoln City, Oregon. She worked as a caterer for Out West Catering at the Pendleton Convention Center. She married Ronald Francis Haynes and they made their home in Pilot Rock. She is survived by her husband Ron Haynes of Pilot Rock, Ore.; children Thomas Lamar Johnston of Baker City, Ore., Frances Carlene Dixon of Baker City, Ore., Carlton Paul “Pete” Johnston of Pilot Rock, Ore., and Jacqueline Yvonne Johnston Henderson of Pendleton, Ore.; her grandchildren Jeremy, Sarah, Melissa, Jake, Charles, Thomas, Wesley, Taylor, Dan, Kyle, Judie, Emily, Samantha, Paul, Luke, Jesse, Bryson, Connor, Owen, Lawrence, Kassie and Travis; and several great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, Pete and Frances Wright, her sister Yvonne and her brothers Bing Wright and Alen Punk Wright. A reception will follow services at Pat Young’s residence. TUESDAY, MAY 17 No services scheduled Dick Huston, 82, passed away March 12, 2016, in Clackamas, Oregon. He was born August 13, 1933, in Ukiah, Oregon, to Clarence “Kelly” Huston and Alma (Parrish) Huston. After graduation from Ukiah High School, Dick attended Eastern Oregon College, earning both a bachelor’s and master’s degree in education. He later earned his doctorate degree in educa- tional psychology at Indiana University. Prior to beginning Huston his long career in education, he served in the U.S. Army for 2 years in Germany. He was a teacher and counselor in the Pendleton School District as well as being the school psychologist coordinator for the Umatilla County Education Service District. He retired from the ESD in 1985 and began a tour of the world, traveling extensively with Evelyn, his wife of 61 years. In between their journeys, they spent time at their beach home in Rockaway. Dick was an avid isherman and enjoyed many Pederson awarded 2016 Tripper Rice scholarship hours on the water, both here in Oregon and in the many countries they traveled to. Each fall he returned to Ukiah to hunt deer and elk. Dick especially enjoyed his involve- ment with Happy Canyon. He began as a cast member in 1958 and had various roles in the show. In 1986, he was appointed to the Happy Canyon Board of Directors and served as the games director until 1991. Many memo- ries and friendships were made during those years. Dick is survived by his wife Evelyn, daughters Kelli Lindell of Portland and Kerri Jacobsen (Mike) of Oregon City. He had three grandsons, Ryan Lindell (Jenny), Drew Lindell and Neal Jacobsen. In addition, he has one great- grandson, Harris Lindell. A memorial service for Dick will be held Saturday, June 4th at 3:00 p.m. at Hamley’s Steakhouse in Pendleton. Memorial donations in his honor can be made to the Happy Canyon Foundation, P.O. Box 1475, Pendleton, OR 97801. PENDLETON — Preston Pederson, an 18-year-old senior at Hermiston High School, has been awarded the 2016 Tripper Rice Memorial Scholarship, in the amount of $2,500. The scholarship is given each year in memory of Tripper Rice, a past Intermountain High School Rodeo Association state champion and national qualiier. The scholarship was established by his parents, Paul and Cindy Rice of Pendleton. The scholarship takes academic achieve- ment into consideration but also is weighted heavily on the student’s inancial need, desire for continued education, sportsmanship, leadership in the classroom and community, and continuous enthusiasm for their Pederson school and rodeo. Pederson, the son of Curtis and Judy Pederson of Hermiston, participates in calf roping, team roping, steer wrestling and cow cutting in high school rodeo events and on a permit with the Pro Rodeo Cowboys Association. He also plays basketball for HHS and is involved in FFA, yearbook and 4-H, and serves as a mentor for new students in welding classes. Pederson plans to attend Blue Mountain Community College in the fall to earn an Associate of Arts degree, and then transfer to Sam Houston State University in Texas to study land management and crop science. Main St., Heppner November 12, 1934-May 10, 2016 Long-time Hermiston/ Heppner resident Jan A. Vyhnal, 81, passed away Tuesday, May 10th. Mr. Vyhnal was born November 12, 1934, in Prague, Czech Republic, to parents Jan Vaclav and Anna Buerova Vyhnal. He served as a paratrooper in the United States Army during the Korean War. He was employed at J & M Pipe Manufac- turing and worked for Marlette Mobile Home Vyhnal Manufacturing for 27 years. He enjoyed his peace and tranquility on his property in the mountains above Heppner. He loved to run and stay it. He will be remembered for his singing, he would often sing Czech songs for family and friends. He is survived by children Pete Vyhnal, Juanita Gonzalez, John Vyhnal, Angi Ringering and Katrina Brood, nine grandchildren, seven great-grand- children and many family members in the Czech Republic.
