Groups celebrate National Service Day An April 12 celebration of National Service, which was proclaimed National Service Day in Pendleton, featured a collaborative commitment to national service by the Confederated Tribes of the Umatilla Indian Reservation, Umatilla County and the city of Pendleton. Among the dignitaries were Chief Gary Burke, chairman of the CTUI5 board of trustees; Umatilla County Commissioner George Murdock; Pendleton Mayor Phillip Houk; John Brenne, project director for Foster Grandparents/Senior Companion Program; and Jeremy Red Star Wolf, CTUI5 vice-chair. In addition, others present were several FGP and SCP volunteers; one VISTA volunteer and one AmeriCorps volunteer. The girls elected to spend part of their earnings from their cookie sale this year to help the Pendleton nonpro¿ t that helps rehabilitate birds of prey. They purchased cotton balls, SOS pads, stamps and more for the Pendleton facility. Executive Director Lynn Tompkins took the troop on a tour of the facility The Pendleton Lions Club wishes to thank the businesses who donated to our annual 5adio Auction and to those listeners who contacted us to bid on items. Thanks to all of you we had our best auction ever. The money will be used locally to help meet sight and hearing needs, BMCC emergency scholarships and other community assistance. Erica is the daughter of Ervin and Paula Baty of West Plain, Mo. She is a graduate of Pulaski High School in Jackson- ville, Ark., and East Carolina University. She is the operations manager for Northwest Mutual in Benson. Todd is the son of Gary and Cindy Bradley of Hermiston. He is a graduate of Hermiston High School and Western Baptist College (Corban). He is the head softball coach at Campbell University in Buies Creek, N.C. The couple will be married Sunday, June 12 at 3 p.m. in Dunn, N.C. St. Anthony Hospital, Pendleton Caiden Marks, Chris Marks, Tracee Marks and Virginia Roberts. Eleven teams participated in the inaugural event to see who would reign supreme. COMMUNITY CALENDAR Baty-Bradley BIRTHS East Oregonian staff wins trivia contest The East Oregonians, a team consisting of staff at the newspaper, took ¿ rst place in Trivia Games 2016 sponsored by the Umatilla County Historical Society. Scoring 21 points, the team included George Plaven, Tim Trainor, Kathryn Brown, E.J. Harris and Renee Struthers. The second place ¿ nisher with 1 points was The Grizzlies with Reese Gilliland, Ashton Marks, Todd Bradley and Erica Baty There’s no bully about it, Lola she needs a good home! She is an 8 month old French Bulldog. Lola is very playful and gets along great with other dogs and kids. Lola isn’t much of a barker but she is very attentive and smart. She can best be described as a sweet girl who will give your family tons of love and affection and has beautiful human-like eyes. Lola has been overlooked at our shelter so far, but she’s hoping to find the right forever family today. Approximately 7.6 million companion animals enter animal shelters nationwide every year.
