RECORDS Tuesday, February 16, 2016 PUBLIC SAFETY LOG SATURDAY 2:56 a.m. - A man reported four males assaulted his friend after they left Crabby’s Underground Saloon, 220 S.W. First St., Pendleton. The suspects punched his friend while he was on the phone, the caller said, then pulled out a police baton and struck his friend four or ¿ve times. He identi¿ed one as a local offender that police know well. He said the group left, and his friend did not need an ambulance. 8:38 a.m. - A 47-year-old man fell off a roof in Heppner and may have broken his arm. An ambulance took the man to Pioneer Memorial Hospital, Heppner. 4:01 p.m. - Someone slashed the tires on a vehicle in the back parking lot of Virgil’s at Cimmiyotti’s in downtown Pendleton. 4:29 p.m. - A woman reported the theft of ¿ve cellphones and birth certi¿cates from her friend’s room at the Pillars Motel, Pendleton. 10:47 p.m. - Pendleton police received a report of “mass panic/drama that is happening on Facebook on the Real Pendleton Classi¿ed page regarding some guns that were stolen by some people involved in drugs.” A caller asked to speak to an of¿cer about someone “going to get the weapons from the druggy” and said she was concerned the mob from Facebook was planning to go to “the theft/druggy’s residence” and take back the guns. The caller also said people on the Facebook page posted the serial numbers of the guns. SUNDAY 12:31 p.m. - A Pendleton man on Southwest 28th Street reported someone broke into his home, broke into his gun safe and stole two riÀes. 1:17 p.m. - Someone ¿red ¿ve gunshots near Catalpa Tree RV Park, 15 S.E. Alexander Ave., Pendleton, startling a deer, which ran from the area, and residents, who called the police. 2f¿cers did not ¿nd the shooter. 8:35 p.m. - A Pendleton couple caught someone trying to break into their car on Southeast Court Avenue. The suspect was a male in a gray hooded sweatshirt and took off in a red 1990s Chevrolet pickup. ARRESTS, CITATIONS Friday Pendleton police at 9:47 p.m. received a report of domestic violence on the 300 block of Southwest 28th 'rive. 2f¿cers arrested Caleb Marker, 23, of Pendleton, for driving under the inÀuence of intoxicants. Umatilla Tribal Police Department arrested Katrina Marie Chamberlain, 29, of Pendleton, for possession of methamphet- amine and harassment. Saturday Umatilla Tribal Police Department arrested James Francis Marsh, 28, no address provided, for assault and domestic abuse. Sunday Pendleton police arrested Jorge Antonio Montes, 26, of Pendleton, for strangulation and fourth-degree assault after receiving a 9-1-1 call that he hit and threw around a woman in her home. Pendleton police arrested Jose Calvillo-Solis, no age or address provided, for duii. Oregon State Police arrested Chelsea Elizabeth Kacena, 21, of Pendleton, for duii. Oregon State Police arrested Kyle Ray Slusky, 24, of Hermiston, for unlawful possession of a ¿rearm, second-degree mischief and duii. Jim D. Brown Ishmael James Elam ‘Jim’ Cheney La Grande May 8, 1948-February 3, 2016 Milton-Freewater August 24, 1927-February 10, 2016 Jim D. Brown died peace- fully at home on Wednesday, February 3, 2016, surrounded by family. His death was due to complications of lung cancer. A celebration of life in memory of Jim will be held at a later date. He was born May 8, 1948, in Dayton, Wash., as the 10th of 11 children born to parents Delmas and Nadyne Kirk Brown. Jim spent WKH¿UVW\HDUVRI his life in Dayton, Wash., and then his parents moved to Brown Pendleton, Ore. Jim served in the U.S. Army from 1968-70. In 1973, Jim married Barbara Hamm in La Grande, Ore., and they were married for 42 years. In 1973, Jim also began a 30-year career with ODOT in Pendleton and retired in 2003 as district RI¿FHPDQDJHUIRU2'27LQ La Grande. Family and friends have many fond memories of Jim’s kindnesses to anyone in need. Jim enjoyed bowling, ¿VKLQJ ZRUNLQJ LQ KLV \DUG and snow blowing in the winter. Recruited by his late brother-in-law, John Williamson, Jim volunteered for 43 years at the Eastern Oregon Livestock Show in the pari-mutuel racing booth. A member of Our Lady of the Valley Catholic Church, Jim had formerly served as a lector and Eucharistic Minister. Jim was also a member of the Knights of Columbus. Jim is survived by his wife, Barbara, and son, Doug. Survivors also include his siblings Delmas Brown of Worley, Idaho; Bob Brown (Jo) of Roy, Wash.; Janet Ogle of Selah, Wash.; Don Brown of Kentucky; and Sherrill Bierman (Howard) of Walla Walla, Wash., and numerous nieces and nephews. Jim was preceded in death by his parents, sisters Joan Miller and Shirley Miller, and brothers Jack Brown, Kirk Brown and Gary Brown. Deeter, 95, of Pendleton died February 5, 2016, at St. Anthony Hospital. A graveside service with military honors will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Friday, February 19, 2016, at the Olney Ceme- tery mausoleum. Robert was born May 17, 1920, in Newport, Wash., to Russell C. and Bea K. (Sullivan) Deeter. He attended school in Dalkena, Wash., and graduated high school in Newport, Wash. He served 4½ years in the Navy during WWII. On June 28, 1942, he married Shirley Hamilton in Seattle, Wash. He spent 30 years working in law enforcement. We love him and he will be missed. The person in the house called 9-1-1 and she he did not know the suspects. 3:59 a.m. - Police received a report of a Pilot Rock resident abusing and neglecting two Pomeranian dogs. 10:11 a.m. - A resident of Brooke RV Park, 5 N.E. Eighth St., Pendleton, reported his neighbors are throwing dog feces into his yard. Last week they did the same thing, he said, and they are telling people the dog is his, but it is not. He said he could tell that by the size of the piles. 11:46 a.m. - A man found someone turned on the propane and tampered with other items on his trailer on Paul Smith Road, Boardman 12:13 p.m. - A Heppner man reported his wife ingested a handful of pills because she was angry at him and then left. The 0orrow &ounty Sheriff¶s 2f¿ce and Heppner ambulance found her and took her to Pioneer Memorial Hospital, Heppner. 3:35 p.m. - Someone rolled a Jeep at the Umatilla National Wildlife Refuge, Irrigon, damaged the ground and left. There were no reports of injuries, and anyone involved in the crash left before the law showed up. 11:38 p.m. - A Pendleton man claimed he was bleeding from the mouth and face after another man assaulted him at Southwest 11th Court and Southwest Nye Avenue. The caller declined medical help. East Oregonian Barbara Jean Stansbury, 57, of Pendleton died Friday, Feb. 12, 2016, at her home. She was born April 10, 1958. Ishmael James Elam Cheney (Jim), a resident of Milton-Freewater, Ore., passed away February 10, 2016, in Pendleton, Ore., of natural causes. He was loved and respected by all who knew him and will be greatly missed. Gregory W.C. ‘Greg’ Hoffman Hermiston June 12, 1962-February 5, 2016 Gregory W. C. “Greg” Hoffman of Hermiston, Oregon, was born on June 12, 1962, in Hermiston, Oregon, to parents Jerald and Jody Schwab Hoffman. He died on February 5, 2016, at Kadlec Region Medical Center in Richland, Washington, as the result of an accident at the age of 53 years. Greg was raised and attended schools in Herm- iston, Oregon, where he competed in baseball and foot- ball. He graduated from Hermiston High School in the class of 1981. Greg Hoffman worked construc- tion in Seattle, Washington, for a few years. He spent most of his life in Hermiston, Oregon. Greg married Robin Gorman on September 30, 1996, in Coeur d’Alene, Idaho. He worked at J & M Manufacturing for several years and later at the Umatilla Chemical Depot and most recently as a truck driver. Greg enjoyed hunting, ¿VKLQJ FDPSLQJ WKH PRXQ- tains, playing pool, and riding his motorcycles. He was the neighborhood Dad, building a rec room in the garage for the kids to hang out. Greg was very supportive of his chil- dren’s activities. Greg always strived to make others happy and would give you the shirt off his back. He loved life and lived it to the fullest.
