WEEKEND, AUGUST 29-30, 2015 Sports shorts EOU releases men’s basketball schedule LA GRANDE — Preseason battles with Gonzaga and Metro State highlight the 2015-16 Eastern Oregon University men’s basketball schedule, which was released this week. The Mountaineers travel to Spokane on Nov. 7 to face the Bulldogs, which went 35-3 last season and reached the Elite Eight of the NCAA tournament before being eliminated by the soon-to-be national champions Duke Blue Devils. EOU will kick off the 2015-16 campaign on Oct. 16-17 against Vancouver Island, a premier program in the Canadian Collegiate Athletic Association. EOU will host the 16th annual Quinn Classic on Oct. 30-31, and will face Metro State in the Wendy’s Classic Nov. 20. With several key players returning on offense and defense, expectations are high for the No. 13 team in the NAIA. “It’s a good feeling but at the same time we’ve still got to go prove it,” Camp said of the team’s coaches poll ranking in a video posted on the EOU Athletics website.
