The service is Sunday at 10 a.m. at 201 S.W. Dorion Ave., Pendleton. Former students and others are invited to help in thanking the three women for their long-time service. Heppner chamber meets Thursday HEPPNER — During the Heppner Chamber of Commerce meeting, Sandy Matthews will share about a recent Veterans in Washington D.C. trip she took with her dad. Tour features cider tasting MILTON-FREEWATER — The public is invited for a walk through the heritage orchard started by Earl Brown almost four decades ago. Participants will return to Blue Mountain Cider Company for a tour of where the fruit is crushed, fermented, and bottled. The tour will end with an opportunity for adults to sample local, award- winning cider. From Branch to Bottle is Saturday, July 18 at 11 a.m. at Blue Mountain Cider Company, 235 E. Broadway Ave., Milton-Freewater. The event registration is $10 for adults and free for children and students. Noted for its tradition of environmental stewardship and for trying new fruits for cider-making including peaches, raspberries, cherries, cranberries and pomegranates, the Blue Mountain Cider Company is a family operation. Saturday, July 11, 2015 OBITUARIES Margaret D. Stevens Adolph Maxwell Dowdy Corvallis June 19, 1920-June 25, 2015 Hermiston December 6, 1937-July 8, 2015 After having celebrated her 95th birthday with a large gathering of family and friends on June 20th in Corvallis, Margaret D. Stevens passed away in the early morning of June 25. Margaret was born in Junction City, Oregon, to Oscar Lynn and Vida Luthy Dunlap on June 19, 1920. She was a native Oregonian born on the 320-acre Dona- tion Claim Land #738 Section 19 that her great-grand- father, Hyson Smyth, purchased in October 1854. He and his bride Stevens Martha Crenshaw Smyth had arrived in the Willamette Valley from Lincoln County, Missouri. The Dunlap family moved to Caldwell, Idaho, in 1926. Margaret attended grade school, high school and the College of Idaho in Caldwell. She graduated from the University of Idaho in 1944. She was married to C. William Stevens of Boise, Idaho, in Quantico, Virginia, where he was attending Of¿- cers Training, on March 4, 1944. After World War II, they lived in the Boise area until her husband was transferred to Pendleton to be manager of the Sherwin-Williams paint store in 1951. For many years she worked with her husband as a color consultant. Her husband preceded her in death on November 6, 1982. She was a resident of Pendleton for 49 years until she moved to Corvallis in 2000. She was a member of the Episcopal Church, P.E.O. Chapters CL and BJ, and a life member of the Sons and Daughters of Oregon Pioneers. She is survived by her children: Richard of Portland, Ron (wife Soozi) of Corvallis, Brad (¿ancpe Linda Morgan) of Baker City, Kirk (wife Josi) of Portland and Ann Sands (husband Rod) of Oregon City; 14 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; half-sister Judy Dunlap Alder of Murray, Utah; and sister-in-law Faye Dunlap of Caldwell, Idaho. She was preceded in death by her son Bruce (wife Carole) of Twin Falls, Idaho, in 2012; granddaughter Hillary Sands in 1988; her parents; and her two brothers, Ray and Ralph. A memorial service will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, July 25, at the Church of the Good Samaritan in Corvallis. Another memorial service will be held at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, August 15, at the Episcopal Church of the Redeemer in Pendleton. Cremation was requested. While attending a summer dance in Haines, Oregon, Dolph met his future wife, J. Roselle McNair, and on December 31, 1955, they were married at St. Francis Cathedral in Baker City. Dolph was a Dowdy proud retiree of the State of Oregon Highway Division (DOT). He received many awards throughout his 31-year career, even receiving Employee of the Year in 1981. Dad really enjoyed his long retirement, adding golf to an impressive list of hobbies that included ¿shing, hunting, camping, woodworking, gardening, wine making, painting with acrylics and the ability to ¿x anything and everything! He is preceded in death by his wife of 45 years, J. Roselle; parents Mabel Christine Emmerson and Adolph Maxwell Dowdy Sr.; and four brothers, Harvie, Marvin, Roy and infant Carroll. Survivors include his two children, Janis (Regan) of Pasco, Wash., and R. Joseph (Genevieve) of Ft. Collins, Colo. Grandad also leaves six grandchildren and six great-grandchil- dren. There are also four surviving sisters, Loretta, Hazel, Wanda and Darlene; four brothers, Verl, Harold, Lowell and Troy; and three McNair brothers-in-law, Mark, William and Hugh.
