National Geographic, focusing on Severe’s saddlery and leather works, photographed the 74-year-old Pendleton icon sitting on the rail of a fence next to a saddle while nephew Randy Severe rode back and forth on a horse in the background. Severe said the National Geographic article, which will feature several artists whose works are on display at the Smithsonian Institute, is planned for January of 1991.
