Famed saddle maker Duff Severe, Wran-
gler’s newest “Legend in Jeans,” was photo-
graphed last week for the western clothing
company’s magazine advertisements and
for a feature article being written about him
for National Geographic magazine. Severe
took photographers to Adams and across
Thornhollow Grade for pictures among the

tains. Both photographers, he said, wanted the
Blues in the background of their shots. National
Geographic, focusing on Severe’s saddlery and
leather works, photographed the 74-year-old
Pendleton icon sitting on the rail of a fence next
to a saddle while nephew Randy Severe rode
back and forth on a horse in the background.
Severe said the National Geographic article,
which will feature several artists whose works
are on display at the Smithsonian Institute, is
planned for January of 1991. Severe has had
his saddles and rawhide work displayed at the
Smithsonian six times.
