The plan is extensively followed in the east and several northwest towns have taken up the plan, among them being Lewiston, Idaho, and McMinnville, Oregon. Such a school was planned for Walla Walla and would have been built had not the high school bonds been voted down. 50 Years Ago From the East Oregonian April 27-28, 1965 The makings of a controversy cropped up at the Milton-Freewater City Council meeting Monday after objection was expressed over the proposed selling of the old Milton city park for industrial purposes. Rogers of Walla Walla Canning Co. made an offer of $15,000 to the city for the 4.8 acre park, located between SE 9th and 11th avenues, next to the Walla Walla River. The canning company desires the property, located at the rear of its present facility, for use in future expansion. Mrs. A.B. Adkisson presented a letter bearing 150 signatures, which not only asked that the park not be sold, but that it be properly maintained as well.
