The-fire and street departments to day combined forcea to enforce the weed cutting ordinance in the city. Notices were sent out two weeka ago by the atreet department that all woods must tie cut and a large per centage of the local publio responded. There 'are still a large number of lots with weeds uncut, the fire chief re ported today, and these are drying so rapidly that they are a fire risk, lie asks that these weeds be cut at once and that when they are burned the surrounding buildings be sprinkled so that sparks will -not start a blase. A conflagration that consumed 150 tons of hay on the William 81 usher ranch at Nolin last Saturday night added more Illumination to the sky lhau all the fireworks which were im ported for the Nolln celebration. The Origin of the hay fire is unknown but It Is thought to havo coma from sparks from fireworks used at the celebra tlon. The hay was tile, first cutting if alfalfa from the SI usher ranch. The Maurice Brown players, who handled the play, gave it a finish that stirred the audience 1 its several dramatic scenes and many compliments were heard for the excel letice of the cat. Miss Janet Young, who Is remembered here by former University of Oregon students as dramatic star there, had the lead In the play. The Christian church seniors last evening gained a step in the march toward the church league champion ship by winning from the Presbyterian nine by forfeit. The latter team 'was unable to assemble nine players and wan obliged to give the game th the Christians, 9 to 0. The Christians will sit by and look on tomorrow evening while the Presbyterians are scheduled to meet the Baptists. The Baptist sh meet the Christians next Tuesday even ing in the final game to determine the championship of the league. Arivstid for Wrong Partkiiuf.
