It was announced here that Milwaukie people will pay the Portland rate for gas, tl, for each 1000 cubic feet, from the in stallation of the gas mains. A canvass of three days for gas consumers re sulted In obtaining more than 100 families, and under the terms of the franchise the Portland Gas & Coke company provides gas at Portland rates, with a 50-cent minimum rate. Bull Run water will be turned in the new mains laid by the city and Streib's addition will be the first to get this water. Two hun dred cords of wood were destroyed in a fire which rnn over 10 acres of timber on the farm of William Serf lintr, on the South Santiam river, be tween Thomas and Crabtree. The fire endnnge-rcil about S00 acres of timber and an additional 600 cords of wood. About 50 fire fighters summon ed from the surrounding country stopped it. The origin of the fire Is unknown.
