Between two and a half and three tons of rabbits are being shipped to Portland today from Umatilla county t4 trace the Christmas tables of the poor of that city, as the result of a general shoot held In the west end of the county yesterday. On account of the cold weather, the turnout for the hoot was not as large as was antici pated but the sport was rood for those who went and the county has about 2000 leas rabblta. From Pendleton only about half don men went down to Butter Creek. They were met at the station by Pete Sheridan and several other men and the party succeeded In bag ring 100 rabblta which were brought hack to Pendleton and shipped from here. J. L. Miller, traveling passen ger agent of the O.-W. R. N., E. B. Cleaver and A. Phlmlster Proctor, the sculptor, were members of this party The Umatilla party shipped about 100 pounds of rabbits from that town and the Stanfleld party brought In two wagon loads of the animals. The nermlston party and the Echo party bugged as many as any of the oth ers. AH of the shipments were made to the "Muts," an organization of Portland business men who are dis tributing charity among the Port land poor. Day of Prayer is Set. AMSTERDAM, Dec. 21. Nino cars of wounded soldiers have reached Vera Crui and more are expected. Tho bodies of four dead of ficers also have arrived at Vera Crus.
