There was a small trade at the stockyards today, 143 hogs and 325 sheep being the total offerings. Hogs are quoted steady with sales for the day showing a range from 18.50 to $8.75. Hotter quality could have brought a dime more. This would be exactly the same price as ruled on this day a year ago. Market for cattle Is extremely firm with no supplies In for the day. In the grain market, the strength remains pronounced for barley, al though little business has recently passed. There Is more disposition on the part of oats holders to sell a few small lots and the highest mos out today range no higher thnn $2S. In fact, this value is almost uniform ill the city at this time. Trade in the wheat market Is quiet but stendy. A few small lots nre re ported In icon by exporters around 79c n bushel basis of track delivery for club and R2c for bluestem. Market for flour Is quiet but firm, with prices maintained both for ex port, nnd local manufacture. Mlllfeeds are steady with neither strength nor weakness displayed by values. The illness of Nelll, who is attempting to settle the locomotive engineers' strike, de lay proceedings today. Stone said: "I regret the delay but am willing to wait a couple of days for Neill to re cover but It must be understood that unless a settlement Is reached before the end of the week the railroads will have a general strike by Christmas. The steamship Prince George which went ashore yesterday while entering the harbor in a dense fog, was pulled off this morning by two tugs, undamaged. Pulp Dill Introduced. Washington, Dec. 20. A bill to pro mote commerce between the United States and foreign countries in wood pulp and the printing paper indus try was Introduced yesterday by Rep resentative Ferris of Oklahoma. It provides that wood pulp and printing uper shall be admitted to the United States free of duty on condition that the government where It is produced and from which it is imported restricts the exportation or imposes an export charge.
